this is not a singles club but there are always a few tables of singles at the shag club dance each thurs night at bradenton rec center....even if we do not dance, it is great to watch the talented couples who do and to visit with friends. bring your own snacks and beverage (water is provided). party starts at six, $3 at the door to pay patrick the dj, and goes until about eight forty at bradenton rec center on pinellas place....we could really use a few guys at least for the slow dances :) some of the married guys are very gracious to take us for a spin on the dance floor occasionally. i am on door duty this week so say hi!

Most of us baby Boomer males grew up in an era when " dancing " was anything but .
I recall what great dancers my parents were in the traditional sense . My late dad was a " blue-collar guy " a pipe -fitter by trade . However I can vividly recall my parents moving the furniture and rolling up the rugs so they could practice their dance moves to the tune of a record played on an old Victrola .
I still remember how at my sister`s wedding everyone clearing the floor to watch my parents jitter-bug . Unfortunately I did not inherit those skills .

well, jim, you are still welcome to come and chat! dancing is becoming a lost art replaced by jumping around rhythmically or not so much :) i love to watch good couples.

Some of us "married ladies" enjoy "lending" our husbands to the singles to dance - don't be afraid to come up to the guys either and ask THEM to dance!

yeah, that way you get to dance with other guys too. good dancers always have more fun mixing it up with different partners.

Are they all aware of what the term "shag" means in the vernacular of England?

well, kc, if you attend at bradenton rec center on thurs nights at six, they can surely point you toward the singles, who usually congregate on the right side of the room, closer to the dj....music gets going at six thirty....byob and snacks.

My brother and his wife are life long shaggers. Often attend local dances and travel for those out of town. My wife and I have attended a few but are not regulars.
