Does anyone have a clue how you could be electrocuted while charging an I-phone 5?

Just read that Apple is apologizing to a Chinese woman who , unfortunately, was electrocuted** while somehow touching or talking on her I-phone 5 while it was charging............?????? I read further that there were other issues back in 2008. We have an I-phone 4.

Thanks in advance to any techies out there who would like to wager a guess.
I just read about it in the Chicago Tribune.....Monday's issue.

This is exactly what I read in the Chicago Tribune......
Earlier my link did work as I sent it to my hubby.......
For some reason, now it doesn't work........but you posted from ABC.
Weird occurrence. My husband said he's always charging the I-phone.
But we have the "4" not the "5".

Your toaster or electric skillet perhaps, but the amount of elec that could come thru a socket thru the charger thru the phone would never kill someone. I would be very surprised if you could even receive a small shock. The sky is not falling.

If the phone was plugged in to AC while charging and was wet, or she was in water like rain or a bathtub, there's a chance of death. If there was a lightening storm or a city power surge through the AC charger that could also explain the phenomenon.

I think the Apple investigation will find something unfortunate about Miss Ma's death of that nature.

You do not get electrocuted, What happens is that in rare cases the charger and phone malfunctions resulting in the phone exploding. This can only occur when the phone is "on charge" and a person answers an "incoming" call. I don't believe a death is likely but an exploding phone held at your ear can casue severe damage.

I will by that, but no well in Haiti you can receive enough elec through that tiny thin charger wire to electrocute someone. When are we going to grow up and stop running in fear of everything.

I doubt if anyone is throwing away their I-phones.
We have an I-phone 4S which is the model before the 5.

Not sure if the 6 is for sale yet.

Again, no one would be throwing their phones away because of one lady in China who met an untimely death...........but it is strange, to say the least.

Apple has offered to replace all counterfeit/non-apple chargers for a nominal fee. It was probably a bad charger.

IMO Anything plugged into 220V can kill you if you become the direct short! But the wiring on digital devices is probably too small and will burn up quickly it too many amps and sent down the line which will cause fire due to the plastic insulation melting off the wiring IMO.

It's just not possible to get electrocuted by that little bit of current.
