I never once thought that having a black president to be a bad thing. I think he should have very carefully responded so as not to feed the disdain of people who are ignorant. He is black. I thought it would have been much more diplomatic and it would be much better to have avoided saying anything that could be construed as racial about the verdict.

There are some that just plain thoroughly dislike me on this forum, even though they have never met me and really know very little about the person that is me.... and those people would take my words as mean spirited no matter how I said them. And to be honest, I feel a little mean spirited today. But Barack Obama's race has never once entered into my opinion of him until he sided with what seems to being made into a racial controversy. I think it was very racially motivated based on what I gleaned from the trial by both of them. If they were both of the same race, it would have had a different outcome. They both made mistakes, but we concentrate on what is the best political position.

Good post...and have to admit that our President is in an unenviable position, one in which he put himself in.

He spoke and got involved before any investigation was complete. He spoke at that time in words that reinforced and put emphasis on the race aspect. Remember this put enormous pressure on everyone for a rush to judgement.

He has appointed an Attorney General who, as of yet, has not even acknowledged the FBI findings on race, or the comments from the jurors (ALL of them, not just the one 'famous" for her interview) on the lack of race in the decision, and who simply in the past few days has been speaking to black groups about injustice, and to my knowledge has never uttered Zimmermans name.

His ex Secy of State has made remarks to black groups stating shock at the verdict and spoke of Martin as if he was a saint.

Today, the Martin family appealed to the POTUS to go over this with a fine tooth comb as the DOJ for the second or third time try to find something racial.

The White House says he will not be involved, and I will accept that for now, but he, himself, has put himself into a situation that is not very comfortable.

As another poster pointed out, the taxpayers payed for the security for this event...the DOJ spent quite a bit of money that day..not sure how that plays or how they become security for an event.

I don't think the thread should be shut down. The whole forum is here so that people can find out more about life in TV. There is a giant myriad of opinions here in TV, contrary to what many who've never even been here think.

I think it's a good thing if people can read and see that TV is not what it's often accused of being: "Nothing but old, white, rich, R's". That is far from fact or reality and the discussions on this board are evidence of it.

This thread and other recent ones like the gay marriage one show a huge variety in opinions and in fact, some gay/lesbian posters said they liked reading that there are plenty of people posting both sides of the issue here, and it made them have a lot fewer reservations/hesitations about moving here.

That is a good thing, I think. These topics can be discussed with a balance of differing opinions, without mentioning the dang politicians and parties whose goal is to divide us.

And if people don't want to read this thread or others, they have the freedom to choose not to read it. And they also have the freedom to block certain posters' writings from their view here.

The news media, at least the LSM, wanted this to be racial. CNN called George Zimmerman a White Hispanic. Well his mother looked White and his father from Central America. That, in the words of Dr. Benjamin Carson on Fox and Friends would be like calling President Obama a White African American, (I would have said a White Black, since there are many White Africans in Southern Africa).
Saw pictures of Zimmerman's Great Grand Mother, she was Black African American. This was not racial.

This was a tragedy all around, Travon Martin Dead and George Zimmerman will live with his guilty conscience, always wondering how it could have turned out better. No one happy.

fyi; George Zimmerman's mother is from Peru, his father is Caucasian. So in reality he is 1/2 white or Caucasian and 1/2 Peruvian

Some groups won't see the logic of this and want to blame everything on President Obama. They just can't accept the fact that he won 2 elections and is doing a good job. And they appear to be out in force on TOTV. I'm going to be signing off for awhile. When they got rid of the political forum, I thought it would be fun to get back on TOTV. But with all the political threads lately, the fun is gone. When someone says it is a bad thing to have a black President, and people don't immediately jump all over a racist remark like that, I know I need to find another place to converse. It isn't on TOTV.

i continue to fail to understand why when folks who find a thread they don't like, continue to read it and then blame it for making them leave totv.

Not sure why Quirky just does not offer her opinion on whatever issues. Making sweeping generalizations as she has been doing is just trying to incite and make it about political parties, which it isn't or should be.

Obama is half white and half black. Yet by his actions and words he has divided when he should have unified . Think back on his involvement with Professor Gates, his words concerning Trayvon Martin. consider his appointments such as Eric Holder who has used the DOJ as his personal forum for black causes and has vowed to investigate the injustice resulting from the Zimmerman trial.

Georg Zimmerman had black friends dated black women and mentored black kids even after he was no longer being paid. The rash of break-in at his gated community were committed by blacks. Trayvon Martin was staying at that gated community because he was suspend from school. He has a police history., etc etc etc. The State withheld all this information. The state only agreed to this trial becaue of political pressure. The state interjected their own racist comments by describing Zimmerman as a "white hispanic"

This case was never about race until the Sharpton's of the world decided they needed a new cause to kick start their careers.

Anyone who is not making a profit off of this are being used as useful idiots . For the rest of us let's just continue to be civil in all matters and to everyone setting good example and that has the power to extinguish such hatred.
