What's going on in Sanibel? The Sheriff in marked, unmarked, motorcycle and community watch is patrolling like crazy. Heard something about a woman wrapped in a sheet ringing a residence doorbell at 4:30 a.m. Was this a real incident or a ruse to get into the residence home? If this really happened heads up and I'm happy with the patrols but nothing has been in the paper which doesn't surprise me.

I, too have read or heard that someone wrapped in a sheet was going to houses ringing doorbells saying she was Raped. When the homeowner opens the door, they are met with criminals who barge into their home for a home invasion. I cannot say why the police and home watch are patrolling this area. I did see a sheriff car sitting at the end of Morse Blvd, down by the Sanibel gait today. I couldn't speculate what he was doing there. I do know if my doorbell rings at an odd hour, I will first dial 911, then arm myself. I would never open the door to anyone at any odd hour no matter what they told me. Call for help and then let the police handle anyone on distress. This is very disturbing. If indeed this is happening in TV, we all need to know about it!!

Who in their right mind would open a door at 4 in the morning? Call 911 for help.

Someone soon will get to the bottom of this. Oh boy until then, fasten your seat belt, we will have some interesting speculation and a lot of informative RUMORS.

In the southern area (south of 466A) several days per week. Noticed unmarked sheriff car in Bradenton parking lot last week. Checking for speeders???
Also, woman in sheet ... could she possibly have a mental illness? Let's not jump to the conclusion of crime. There's a reason for me saying this. And no, I'm not the one dressed in the sheet, it would make me look like a tent.

Thank you Phanatic luvr. I have learned to take what you say very seriously and know that you have good sources.

This past Friday, mid afternoon, there were two Sumter County Sheriffs cars roaming around in Mallory Square! They were going up and down Bishopville Loop and the side streets off the Loop!

I really would like to see some of the source material that a couple of posters claim to have read about this happening in The Villages.

To my knowledge, there has not been a home invasion in The Villages since 2009 when a teen age daughter of a Villager was mixed up in a drug ring from Ocala and she stole some money from the ringleader.

Can anyone verify any other home invasion in The Villages?

I believe my post was a bit confusing and for that, I apologize. I had mentioned about there being a home invasion. I read it or heard it......can't remember which one. The invasion wasn't necessarily in TV! I do wish I could remember where I heard or read it. The mind is a terrible thing to lose. The part about the woman coming to the door wrapped in a sheet was a ploy they used to get the home owner to open the door. Not trying to start rumors, it's just the OP mentioned home invasion and I had heard that too.

Another thought, could the lady in the white sheet be experiencing the beginning of dementia?

On Wednesday afternoon, I witnessed someone in a golf cart being stopped in front of Bonifay and they were getting a ticket in their golf cart. On Saturday, a friend of mine told me she got a ticket in her golf cart in front of Bonifay for failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. Maybe the sheriff's department is monitoring golf car violations

I witnessed some police action on Thur. First a lady was pulled over on our street for what I suspect was speeding, and we are not on a main street. Later in the evening, there was at least 5 police SUVs surrounding a car in the enterence to the Publix parking lot on 466A. There was a sherrif's suv with low lights sitting by the exits of the parking lot of Walmart on 25A on Thur evening. I felt very safe with all these suv's protecting us.

That's good to know that it wasn't you dressed in the sheet.

"If" there indeed was someone like that, going door to door.....I would tend to agree with the poster who said that perhaps it might be someone who is confused......say with early stages of dementia / alzheimers. I'm paraphrasing as I'm not looking at their post at the moment.

From personal experience with an elder, I do know they can "sneak out" and "wander"..........and I do know that they can "strip down naked" in a flash.......for no rhyme or reason. Thank goodness it's warm weather.

Or possibly, could it be someone "locked out of their home"..........

I tend NOT to think that it was a home invasion.........hopefully not anyway.

If you think there hasn't been crime in Sanibel come on down and talk to the people that live in the white house on Vanilla Leaf place. They were gone for about two hours around 11:00 am about three weeks ago. They came home and the front door was kicked in. A neighbor across the street from that house was in the shower and thought she heard a loud bang on her front door. I live on the next street over. ADT alarm company now have several new customers.
Even the Daily Sun had a small article buried with-in the paper.

Things a changing.

A good alarm with sign, and cameras can give one peace of mind and evidence if needed. When home, S&W can do the job.

In my travels, in your section of Sanibel, I have come across flyers being left at doors, from someone trying to start a social group/gathering. Although this is a wonderful idea to introduce neighbors, it was not such a good idea to leave such flyers, especially at this time of the year, when a lot of homeowners are away. To me, I saw it as an indicator that no one was home if these flyers were not picked up. Just food for thought.

Excellent point. Flyers left uncollected is like a sign that states you're not home. Fortunately the Sanibel Heights Neighborhood Association does all of its communication with residents via email. That doesn't stop anyone else from passing out flyers about various services from contractors, even though I suspect that this is a violation of The Villages tenets.

Is that near Sterling Heights, MI or Ocean Reef Fernandina?

Sanibel heights?

It's the name of the Association. Designates a section of Sanibel that includes the area from French Oak Avenue to the Bonifay Country Club on the North side of Pinellas.

Doesn't indicate anything other than a section of Sanibel. And I think we have no such problems either.

I read about the Vanilla Leaf home having the front door kicked in at 11 am. That really was strange that no one on the street was aware of it happening. It had to be someone watching the house to know when the person left as it is just too strange for a coincidence break-in.

Besides ADT getting a few new customers, I would suspect a locksmith made a lot of calls to extend the deadbolt locks and to have the extension area hardened.

Still very strange that no one saw anything unusual.
