I just had a 12' x 24' Cypress rough cut pergola built on the backside of my home, and am so thankful I choose Don from Leesburg and his partner to do it. I interviewed 10 contractors, showed them engineering plans, and got quotes from each. There are so many rip offs here, and they all think because you live in the Villages, you are rich and stupid. I received labor costs from $500. to $1800., and didn't go with the lowest bidder. I ordered all the Cypress from the Sawmill, and bought all the hardware from Lowes. oh, let me not forget the engineering plans were done by JFK and Associates, a villager too. If anyone wishes to come and see my Pergola, give me a shout.

We are considering a pergola versus an uncovered but paved flooring (perhaps with an umbrella at the ready). What do you think are the benefits of a pergola?

I already built deck i built 10 years ago, but it gets so much sun from 10 am to 1 pm, i wanted to get more shade. I set a budget of $2500. for the entire project, and have come under that. It has also increased the value of my home.

I did the same thing, went to local mill in sanford, I did screen mine in tho.
Looks nice, sure beats having the same bird cage as everyone else
ps: if you don't treat the wood with UV stain type product it will turn grey
