We had thought about tile through out with the exception of the bedrooms. Our current home has slate in all traffic areas, dining room, kitchen and baths. We love the look of the slate. Super low maintenance. But man is it hard on the body!!!
Now thinking about wood.....
For our LSL visit we stayed in a cute little key west looking home adjacent to LSL sales center. The home had gorgeous hand scraped hickory floors. I'm sure they are incredibly pricey.
I mentioned them to my daughter who said her designer BFF chose "linoleum" in a wood design for her own new home. Durable, beautiful and inexpensive and easy on the feet and legs. .
Anyone know about these products? I think of the old checker board pattern linoleum squares. I guess it's come a long way since then
Any info would be appreciated!
TIA!

My big concern with vinyl would be it ripping when the fridge gets moved - been there done that. Love the warmth of wood or laminate, but the ease of care of tile. Tough decision - go with what makes you fell good - not what the designer did!

My daughter has this in her home and it is beautiful. They live in the country on a horse farm so they not only love the look but the easy care. It comes in all grades and the best is equivalent to hardwood in price. Check it out and I think you will be surprised. It is not the old linoleum but thick vinyl planks. People never notice that it is not hardwood.

That sounds like what my daughtr's friend has. It too went down in planks. She said it doesn't dent or scratch or tear which sounds too good to be true.
I've just not looked at flooring in ages...I guess I've got some research to do!
So that is considered linoleum? Or vinyl? She said it went down with suction cups on the bottom? Any other info??

I love the look of this flooring. Even my bro-in-law who does home remodeling for a living and has never liked anything but hard wood flooring recommends the stuff. It installs in planks, looks like wood but has a cushion to it. We are currently trying to decide what color to go with. In our search we have learned it comes in two different installations. One is interlocking which " floats" the other is glued down Can't figure out which is the better way to go. Pricing seems to be a tad higher than laminate.

Tile. Have had both an tile without a question. No regrets.
We choose linoleum because of the ease of care, warmth(it is not a ceramic tile cemented onto a potentially cold cement slab), and cushioning. It is very easy on your feet, very easy to clean(no grout lines to get dirty), and looks great. We are very happy with our choice and it wasn't a monetary decision although I think the linoleum is cheaper--not really sure.
I have stayed in places with that scraped wood floor you were talking about and really liked it a lot. I guess the only bad thing about it is it may show dust and be hard to keep clean. We had Brazilian Cherry in our last house and it was constant maintenance.

I bought sheet flooring that looks like wood, everyone thinks it is wood, it has a cushion and is easy on the body plus easy care. If you drag a really heavy object it might tear it in which case you simply cut out the bad part and put in another piece. The glue never drys so is easy to repair. Bought from floor masters

We just got back from Lowes, scoped out the appliances and flooring. We were really impressed with the "Allen and Roth" laminate flooring. Amazing stuff. Beautiful and nice texture. Checking online it looks like it is exclusive at Lowes. They have "slate", "tile", and a large selection of "wood" it is $1.99 sq ft excluding the underpayment. It comes in interlocking planks and looks super easy to install. We may just build with vinyl and carpet and consider installing this later. Our favorite was an" antique hand scrubbed hickory".
Very nice.

My wife and I bought ours from Lumber Liquidators for our home in Ohio. They have a huge selection and great prices. We chose the floating floor just in case there's any settling in the foundation.

Had wood in Winter Park and scratched badly. Now have tile in TV. Like either but tile should last and look new longer.

Is it the Luxe Planks? Luxe Plank Vinyl Tile Floors from Armstrong (http://www.armstrong.com/flooring/luxury-vinyl/luxe-plank.asp?intcid=promo_IgniteLuxeLanding_LuxePlank )
I clicked on your link - looks wonderful. I've been debating what to put in next, once we are ready to replace the carpet in the dining/living areas. In my mind, will probably do everything but the bedrooms in the same flooring.
Our villa was built in 2006 and has Armstrong vinyl in kitchen and baths/foyer- a good grade and nice pattern and still looks good, although in the master bath, moisture got in around the shower and has turned it pink in that area. It needed to be resealed (silicone caulk) around the edges and we didn't notice in time.
I think tile looks nice, but have had it before and I consider it rather high maintenance (resealing grout), plus it is hard on your feet/back if you cook a lot in the kitchen, which I do. Like the looks of wood-look laminate, but keep seeing warnings about moisture - and since kitchens and baths get lots of moisture, think this could be an issue, and with hardwood or engineered wood also, plus the scratch issues there.

We installed Armstrong vinyl plank flooring 3 years ago in our kitchen, floridaroom and entryway and it has turned out to be my favorite flooring. We have had wood and tile in our homes this time I wanted something that was easy to keep clean, easy on the body and of course looked good, the vinyl flooring has been the perfect solution. When we remove the carpet in the living area we will be replacing it with the vinyl plank flooring. There have been many improvement in this type of flooring in the last few years and many more choices of wood type and quality of the vinyl.

Is it dog tough? 2 dogs eight paws with nails. How is the noise? ( I love to sneak out to the kitchen for a midnight snack- would I need to take Nijia training?)

I believe it's called "resilient flooring". We are having it put in our laundry room.....to sell our home up north. It looks just like wood........in planks.
We got ours at Home Depot. It will also go in the foyer by the entry from the garage into the lower level of this home.
We've recarpeted the rest of our home, again to sell it........
Neutral shade of "Wooden Slats" with great pad underneath......VERY soft on the feet , knees and legs.........all of the young folks prefer wooden floors but I still love a good carpet as far as comfort.......both in the living room, dining room, all three bedrooms, upstairs and downstairs hallways, etc. the closets, etc. WE have a 30 foot entry foyer and we even had the "Woven Slats" carpeting installed there..........it flows right into the living room.........(had tile and slate before; it was too much to keep clean..........had all the insides of the closets carpeted as well.........ten closets.
Wooden Slats in the Montana Collection is actually the color of sand.
Very neutral.
I have tile floors in the kitchen and in all three bathrooms.
I would never want tile floors all through the home, nor ever again in the kitchen. Our kitchen is huge.......and it's hard to keep the grout clean.
Plus, they are hard on the knees and legs, etc.
The bathroom tile floors are easier to clean as no one is dripping coffee when putting cups into the dishwasher, etc.
I've admired all of the homes for sale in THE VILLAGES which have either the authentic wood floors as well as the laminate wood floors.....so that would be an option.
I've told my husband I would never ever buy a home that has tile all over the house.......as I just could not clean it. Don't have a cleaning lady here and doubt if I would have one there. It just seems too much to clean.
I understand the "coolness" of tile in a southern climate..........but still prefer good carpeting as far as comfort and quietness. The height of the pile in the carpeting we just had installed is just the right one; it feels so good to walk on........and is so quiet on the two staircases as well.....
Just my opinion.

Do all of the vinyl plank flooring styles have to have a wood look? Just wondering because my kitchen is white and I'm not sure what kind of floor would look good with that? Any suggestions? I would like to replace all my carpet in the house with the same floor for a uniform look although I would leave the tile the builder put in.

Our kitchen is white too and we got a grey vinyl floor that has an elongated tile look that looks European/Scandinavian. It really looks sharp and current.

Pets, grand kids, and liquids do not mix well with wood or laminate. I believe most people that are considering wood floors have not lived in a house with wood floors. Looks nice when clean and until you get the scratches. Other surfaces are much more durable. Long ago, most homes had natural wood flooring but they were replaced by vinyl, tile and carpet for a reason. High maintenance. There is no such thing as a wood or laminate surface that will not scratch if it is exposed to something harder than the finish.

Multi colored tile is the way to go if you have pets or even if you don't because it doesn't show footprints, water stains, and all the things that no one can avoid no matter how careful you are. I for one do not feel like sweeping and mopping my floor all day long just to have it look presentable, so I love my slate looking tile, Love It !!!

I went on the Armstrong web site about their Luxe Vinyl Planks. I navigated through the site and got to the installation guide and viewed the install process, which involved a lot more than just peel and stick, and the caveats that should be avoided after install. Don't know if they are the same as wood flooring since we do not have wood at this time, but have been talking about making a change in our LR & DR.
