I was thinking the other day about my dad putting coal in our furnace several times each day and shaking the grates.

I then thought about my mother staying home with my brother and I while my dad worked.

I remember the first picture I saw on TV was Howdy Doody (through a lot of snow)

I fondly remember my mother baking pies, cakes, cookies and bread to be ready for our 5 p.m. dinner when dad got home.

I remember getting a doctor bag for Christmas

I remember 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm.

How about trading stamps and coupons in cigarettes. The whole family going to church on Sunday and our aunts and uncles visiting every Sunday afternoon.

I remember the rumor at grade school that the principal had an electric paddling machine.

Gee! Are there any other things I should be remembering?

What do you mean "rumor" of an electric paddling machine?

That was absolutely 100% true. I was told that by the older kids.

It was true.

All (?) of our junior high teachers -- the males at least -- had big wooden paddles hanging in front of the classroom, many with holes drilled in them. And yes, they used them! Can you imagine than in today's schools?

I remember when school summer vacation seemed to last forever.
I remember when the days, weeks, months and years didn't go so darn fast.
I remember when I thought 50 years old was ancient.
I remember when retirement was too far in the future to even think about.
finally I remember when everyone I loved was still alive...

darn you TALKHOST, now you've got me all misty eyed

You know, those memories mean a lot more now than they did even 10 years ago. I just had this conversation with my 40 year old daughter a month ago. We are "on the back 9" we've made the turn and well be in the club house all too soon.
