We just purchased a designer home that backs to a villa wall. We love the privacy and can't wait to move in September. I'd like to know how some of you have decorated your villa walls to make them look prettier.

Welcome to TV, Anne & Phil
we hope you love it here
as much as we do!!!!
Now back to your question.... I have seen some people do beautiful murals on their villa walls with some wonderful scenes of gardens, flowers, etc. Others have used lovely creeping plants with small flowers to cover the walls. Whatever you do, I'm sure you're gonna love your new home!!!!

since others can see the wall i am not sure if you have to get approval to paint but plants would be welcome

I think there is something somewhere buried in the official do's and don'ts, but I too have seen some incredible and very tasteful artwork on the walls, in fact I think The Sun had an article with pictures about someone painting their wall to resemble the ocean and beach; and every Villa I have seen has plants growing up the walls and hanging off them, along with ornamental items.

My understanding is that if you live in a courtyard villa you can decorate your walls. I guess it is because no one can see them. But if you live on the other side of the villa wall it is a no-no. That is what I was told when I asked. My house backs up to the villa wall.

I am not sure, but believe that owners of designers or homes other than courtyard villas that back up to walls are responsible for painting and upkeep, which is minimal except for painting after many years.

I DO live in a cyv, and have added vines trained on trellises, both metal ones and also clear fishing line (use a heavy grade as some vines get very heavy) looped around one of the posts. Also added screws/hooks with more fishing line to train and support the vines where I wanted them. I didn't do vines in the back until the villa was 5 yrs old or so, and even though the walls didn't really need painted yet, I did so only to freshen them up and not have to cut the vines back to paint before I absolutely need to.

I was able to also change the color since my yard is enclosed. Owners of non-cyv's won't be able to do that, but could give their walls a coat of fresh paint before planting close to the walls, especially when planting vines. I also have some metal decorative things, but mostly vines, other shrubs, flowers, pots, etc. I think it looks great. Vines do grow very quickly in Florida, so they will need a LOT of trimming to keep them inbounds.

Sounds nice. Any pictures ? I'd love to see how others have decorated their CYV wall.
The mural idea sounds nice, too. Anyone have any pictures of that ? How does the mural hold up ? Is it still nice after a few years ? Thanks.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'd love to see the pictures too. I'm so looking forward to doing something creative on the wall. Thanks.

Before you do anything to the wall you may want to check with the Community standards department to see if it's ok. A 5 minute phone call might just save you a whole bunch of money if it isn't allowed and you have to remove it. Just a thought.

I have a designer against a villa wall, I did call ARC and they said nothing can be permanently attached to the wall, and plants like vines cannot go over the wall onto the other side. I ended up landscaping with plants and did some LED landscape lighting, looks beautiful. But I would still call just to be sure as things can change.

We also live in a designer home that backs up to a villa wall. We were told we can not paint or change the wall. Also last month TV came around and pressure washed all of the walls on our side and they will be coming back to paint them. My understanding is that they refinish the walls every xx years...not sure of the schedule.

Plants are acceptable and no permission needed.

Hope this helps...

OOPS,, I'm sorry.. the murals I saw were inside walls in CYV's. I've learned a lot from this thread, so interesting that after 5 years here, I can still learn something new. Thanks to the others for making me realize my error.
