If you had to eliminate one gage from your cars dashboard....

which one do you feel you could easily do without??

For me, I would offer up the oil gage. After all these years and many, many, many vehicles with hundreds of thousands of miles and boat with hundreds of thousands of hours......never one time did this gage tell me ever that something was not running correctly/normal.

Second behind it would be the battery gage......ditto above.

Which one would you delete?

The tachometer. I never even look at it. As for the battery and oil gauges, I haven't see them for quite a while. However, I do remember times back in the 70's when I added an external battery gauge to my old Falcon so I could keep track of the charging rate when I was having alternator problems.

Tachometer. Unless you have a manual transmission, and than, not necessary. REPLACE it with a guage that monitors the traction of the tires on the road. Very easy to do since the car already monitors slippage for stabilitrac. I have asked this many times in the automakers world. Think of the lives it could save. The guage would read green for traction, yellow for caution, and red for hydroplaning or low traction with a bell for a warning. Great for rain, snow, all over the country. Possibly let people know their car is not holding the road well

We have that today. An inexpensive (under $20) bluetooth odb2 reader, an android app and you can view all the computers data in real time.

Agree with not needing the tachometer. I don't even know what it measures. For several years my dad had a car that had a broken gas gauge. My niece also had a car with a broken gas gauge. Could not live with a non-working gas gauge. The clock went out on my 2002 Subaru Forester about 7 years ago so I bought a cheap clock at an auto parts store and keep that clock at the steering console. Several years ago the Subaru dealership near my house wanted $200 to repair the clock. $200 buys a lot of cat food!

Had an Audi in the 70's with a speedometer that the needle fell off.

(Also, if the temp was over 80 and you were making a left hand turn the horn would sound)

Just to see if the engine is idling properly. A change could indicate a probable malfunction of some sort.
