If you have a pool what are/is your experience(s) to date.
Who built your pool?
How long have you had it?
What have you had to replace over the years?
Who maintains your pool?
If you had to do it over again would you have a pool?
Other?
>T&D did ours two year after we had the house built.
>8 years old now.
>We have replaced a pump motor (we have three...pool, jacuzzi and waterfall).
Replaced the pool filtration system.
Replaced prologic control board (lightning surge).
Replaced the pool gas heater.
And just last week replaced the salt generator.
>We have had T&D do the weekly and all other maintenance and replacements.
Would we do it again, yes we would. However, we would make the platform around the pool even bigger. We would make the pool a little smaller with less geometric curves. The jacuzzi a little smaller. And opt for the next level up of pool equipment. Definitely put in a pool 1/2 bathroom.

When we bought our house it was a spec house with a 14 x 32 pool. We have been here 5yrs and use the pool quite a bit. Definitely would go a little smaller if we were to build. Did add a small spillover spa which gets a lot of use in the cooler months. At some point, down the road, I am leaning to the idea of replacing the propane heater with an electric heat pump, cost to operate would be much less than propane.
The pump did burn out three years ago but thankfully it was under warranty. When/if the pump goes again I would replace it with a stronger pump due to the solar panels.
The logic board also burned out luckily about two weeks before that warranty expired.
As to taking care of the pool we do it ourselves. With the salt chlorinator we have found the time and cost of a pool is significantly less than what was required of us with the pool we had back in CT.

What are the costs for maintenance, water, electricity, etc. to maintain a medium sized pool? Are the spillover spas heated? Thanks!

T & D did our pool 9 1/2 years ago.
Replaced the pool light & something with the control box.
These were both covered by T & D.
We have solar heat & love it.
We do our own maintenance. It's not a huge pool.
Very easy to take care of.
I love it.
Definitely would do it again.

T&D installed our pool 1 year ago during our build. They also do the weekly service.
We are extremely happy with both the pool and our decision.
We have solar heat with 16 panels. I would not go with any company T&D suggests unless it is a very SIMPLE install.
It took another company to correct numerous faults for us and 3 other neighbors on our street of 12 homes.

and as I look forward I am not enthusiatic about having a pool when I move to TV. I would think the community pools offer the quick dip and a place to hang out socially.
If you have a pool in TV is it because you previously had a pool and loved it or...does it offer relief during the warm Summer months?

Our pool was installed in 2006 and we bought the home in 2009. So far, am on the third pump motor, pool light, gas pool heater control panel, couple other minor issues with a valve. Have had pool deck painted twice. T&D does everything so far. Have had a couple solar panel leaks but Jack's Solar installed those and so far repairs have been free. Pool is 12 X 28, just about the right size. I would add a spa if building it.
I budget 5K a year for the pool and even with all the maintenance issues has always been below that. Pools are not cheap. It increases your water, gas, and electric bill. So far I would do it again if I was building new or buying I would want one or room to add one.
Our pool is 4 1/2 years old. T&D built the pool and we use their pool service. We just have solar panels so do not use it in the coldest months. I believe my additional electricity is $20 a month for the pump and pool service is $90 per month. Annual cost - $1320. We have not had any additional maintenance so far. I'm sure we will have some maintenance costs soon. I definitely would do it again. Makes the summers OK when you can do a quick dunk any time. And I like the aesthetics.

We got a pool and hot tub because we always wanted our own. It is a wish fulfillment.

Most back yard pools are too small to do any meaningful swimming. Just build a SPA instead since you would mostly just sit or stand around in a small pool anyways. You can use the larger community pools for swimming.

They're nice for water aerobics at the owner's convenience.

I just moved in and t/d built a pool I think is spectacular and the highlight of the house, not including the view. I'm planning on my grandchildren swimming in it when they come along and had a hot tub built with extra deep seating for my extra tall son and little stair steps for his children to perch on, when he gets ready to have some.
Can you adopt grandchildren?
