Don' know it they are allowed or not but I have seen many 49cc scootes on the multi modal trails. I personally think the road is safer than the trail but to each his own.

On another thread, at 10:56 this morning, SusieDuck posted she had asked the VCDD if 49cc mopeds were allowed on the MultiModal trails and was told they are not allowed.
Why come back and start another thread about two hours later asking the same question to which you have already received the answer directly from the authority in charge?
No means no!

Obviously looking for a "yes" response. I think Suzie would be well advised to heed the VCDD advice. Expecting a 'yes' response from our online panel of Moped Experts is like "looking for love in all the wrong places".

Just for the sake of argument, what could the VCDD do if she was caught.
And how would they catch her, cop on a motorcycle? Just askin.

You say "just for the sake of argument". Why argue? That is the rule regarding mopeds on Multi-Modal trails. No means No!

I certainly hope SusieDuck goes with the NO answer. There are lots of walkers on the multi-modal, and a lot with dogs. Our golden had a terrible experience with a moped on a sidewalk. They are noisy, come up by surprise, scare the heck out of you and your dog, and the dog starts jumping all over the place. Our big dog (dragging a chair) got caught between the moped (driving illegally on the sidewalk) and a parked car. He had been hitched to a chair with us at an outdoor cafe table when this jerk got stuck in a traffic jam and decided to make time on the sidewalk.
@SuzieDuck, please don't do it. You will endanger too many.

No 49CC scooter will go 50 miles per hour unless they are modified just like all the golf carts are modified to go over 14 mph speed limit Factory golf carts only go 14 mph when new they are ALL modified to go faster if they go over 14 MPH. Mopeds can be driven on roads with speed limits less 45 MPH. WHY? CAUSE THEY ARE Licensed and Insured.. Again just cause something will go over 20 MPH don't mean you have to floor it when ever you drive it.. YOU don't FLOOR you car everywhere you go do you? why cause there as SPEED LIMIT LAWS. ON EVERY public and Private ROAD. Usually Private roads the speed limit is less.
The scooters you see going over 35 MPH are over 49CC. Most likely 125 to 150CC which look just like 49CC scooters but have BIGGER ENGINE AND ARE NOT MOPEDs.
This has been brought up before and if you search old post you will find that Mopeds, scooter, are no different that GOLF CARTS and bikes. The multi modal trails are for all modes of transportation except cars and trucks if this is not true then then the VCDD needs to post sign restricting mopeds 49CC or less. ANYBODY seen any SIGNS restricting them I haven't?
I seen scooters used throughout the Villages when I'm there. Somebody on old post even as the Sheriff office and they said it was not violation. Most Golf carts run over 20 miles in the Villages so SPEED has nothing to do with it. YOU SPEED then YOU pay the PRICE when caught or caused and accident. 10 to 18 speed bikes can easily go over 20 mph and some do, are they restricted? Again it not the mode of transportation but the speed limit that in question daily on the paths.
As far as the moped on the sidewalk. He was driving illegally. Just like the Golf carts that passed me going 25 plus MPH on multi-modal paths Walking dogs without short lease is asking for trouble in public especially when vehicles are going by whether it be cars, trucks, bikes, golf carts, scooters, skate boards ect...
I would think moped transportation would be encouraged around the villages. THEY burn less gas, pollute less, take up less space, and help save the planet. I think ALL Golf carts should be restricted only to the Golf course.. SO you see we all don't get what we WANT>

Wasn't walking dog on long leash. He was sitting beside me at the table. Don't see many people walking dogs on long leashes on the multi-modals, as there is too much traffic.
Also, if OP was told by the powers that be that mopeds aren't allowed on the multi-modals, then that's the final answer, IMO.

I may be confused on the terminology. I thought the golf cart paths were called multi-modal paths because they allowed walkers, bikers, and golf carts. Is it the marked lines on the roads that are the multi-modal paths?
The OP just said "paths," so I was assuming she meant the ones that aren't part of the roads. But I could have the name of them wrong.

Well I'm glad the subject is broached because legal or illegal I'm having great difficulty with joggers and cyclists simply over the rules of the road.
Was approached the other day by cart and cyclist...cart on left cyclist on RIGHT! Curbed cart-path!
Attempted to yield road to cyclist on right but was not given road clearance by cart driver!
Came to full stop...got heads up...from cyclist (WTF!)!
Am I supposed to "thread the needle" or what?
Same story with some joggers.
I was taught to "ride with traffic"...is it different on cart-paths?

Cyclist was in the wrong. They are supposed to follow traffic laws and ride with traffic. If he was approaching you, he should have been on your left/his right. I would have stopped too, if I were squeezed like you were.

Ar least twice in the past few weeks I have seen in print that mopeds on multimodal paths are illegal. However, the cdd has no enforcement powers and the county does not have jurisdiction. The district can use trespass statutes as a means of enforcement.

Just because I think something don't mean that it's set in stone. People think all the time some are good thoughts and some are not so good thoughts along with their actions. IMO For the most part most Golfer's in their carts are rude obnoxious drivers speeding to and from there next tee time's. And if I understand the law if you have modified you cart to go over 20 MPH that means it LSV and has to be licensed Therefore illegal to drive on the mulit-mogal cart paths which restricts personal transportation...

One can surely comment and disagree, and people will listen and even sometimes change their minds... if it's well thought-out and politely put. There are many threads where it's been done well.
I've encountered a rude golf driver or two, but nowhere near enough to cause me to make a blanket statement that all golf cart drivers are rude and obnoxious. Don't know how you came to that conclusion, but I'd like to hear.

"For the most part most Golfer's" I think if you go back and read my comment I did not say ALL cart drivers. It was only the ones with golf bags hanging off the back of their carts and again "for the Most part don't mean all of them... And besides the majority may have been snowbirds:cold:, beings I was there in snowbird season! I don't know why those golfers put up with these snowbirds! chilout
How did I come to this conclusion?:D Drove around the villages for week in the 14MPH at best rental cart. For the most part it was the golfer's (not ALL) that was the rude and obnoxious IMO. Putt around 12 to 14 MPH on the cart paths (notice I said cart paths and not multi-mogul cause IMO multi-mogul path allows all forms of personal transportation.) see if you experience the same results?
Upon my second visit during non-snowbird season I will revaluated my opinion see if I come up with different outlook?

Just FYI, LSVs are not prohibited on the multi-modal paths. They have the option of using the roadways or the multi-modal paths.

You talk about cart paths and multi- mogul paths. I'm not sure what you mean. The golf cart paths within golf courses are to be used only by golfers, of course.
The multi-modal paths are for varied modes of travel: bikes, walkers, golfcarts.
If you were "putting around" on golf course cart paths, yes, you would encounter some irate golfers since it is not allowed and dangerous.

nope, only on the mutli-modal paths, I got accidently on golf course path and the Ambassador immediately directed me where I made the wrong turn, he was nice and said visiting people get on that course all the time. I noticed the most part (course not all) rude and obnoxious drivers (men) were ones with clubs racing to their tee times.. the ladies was real nice and thanked me for pulling over when I could. I only refer to the multi-mogal paths now as golf cart paths beings they banned mopeds which is not golf course path. Most knew We were those visiting snowbirds due to the slow cart. Some old AH had the gull to yell, But, overall the experience was nice. I am surprised being pet owner you don't experience the same attitude from some?

That's where Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Rupert Murdoch and the like get together with Gary Morse and decide who can use the paths and who cannot.
This is a ridiculous thing to be arguing about. I thought the OP's question was answered by the VCDD many pages ago.

Even though it's OK to walk pets on multi-modal paths, I wouldn't do it. I've seen impatient golf cart drivers yelling and honking their horns at bicycles, pedestrians and slower carts. I prefer the serenity of the dog park where the dogs can romp and play off leash.

There was a woman driving her motor-scooter on the multi-modal paths this morning heading north to Morse, where she then took to the road-way and passed us in our LSV so know it goes faster though I don't know the CC! She did have a license plate on the back. Later she was seen on a sidewalk, on her scooter, in SS talking with someone. That too wouldn't be "legal" I'm sure. This was the 2nd time in about a week I've seen a person on scooter on the multi-modal paths.
Not to beat a dead horse as my parents used to say.
