A True Duffer - needs clubs!

I haven't hit a ball in over 20 years - but, I'm retiring to TV and would like to pick it up again. Where is the best place to look for a set of used clubs? Are there any special times or courses for "true duffers" to play so we don't impede normal progress? I plan to spend much time at the practice facilities but am anxious to chase that ball around a course sometime soon! :wave:

a)make sure you understand and follow golf etiquette
b)buying used clubs that don't fit is always a mistake...buy from one of the pro shops...some might sell used sets that fit you
c)there isn't any time that's good for a beginner...once you're reached 2 or 3 over par pick up and go to the next tee
d)if your slow play due to errant shots is holding people up behind you then wave them through
e)start at an executive course and take the good golfers class here in the villages.
f)be polite and respectful as a true golfer won't mind you taking excess shots as long as you understand that allowing them to play through isn't a sign that you're a horrible player...just one who wants to learn.
g)take lessons...yes they can be expensive, but so are driving lessons to get a license and they're both worth the cost in less aggravation.

Excellent advice from Fred53,,,, I might add that an informational session is available at one of the clubs,, look into that,, a must do , imo. As for clubs,, a starter set is not that costly and at least you will have something that "fits" you. Move up to a better set when your game improves. Good luck and have fun... most of all. And BTW,, practicing on the practice ranges "may" only ingrain bad habits and make them more difficult to break later,, a couple of swing lessons would not be too costly for starters and actually be well worth it in the long run.

I would add that be sure to play from the appropriate tee for your skill level. I have an old set of clubs that you are welcome to borrow if you'd like. Just pm me if you're interested.

Just go to the "Items for Sale in the Villages" forum on this website. There are always clubs for sale.
