View Full Version : I am confused about what is allowed.....
I have been reading and posting on TOTV for a bit over one year. I understand that at one time there was a political off-shoot of TOTV but I never saw it. I did see, however, during the presidential election cycle, that political discourse was banned. I guess I can understand that if it proved to be "hurtful" dialog between parties. And I do understand that when certain topics get "out-of-control" and name calling (or similar) is used that the thread should be closed.
What I do not understand is the closure of topics that are very timely and affect every American. In particular, I have been very interested in the TOTV's view about the most recent "alert" for travelers and the closure of the foreign embassies. That thread was closed, and to be honest, I have NO idea why? I didn't read anything that I would have found "inflamatory". but maybe it was "over-my-head". I find that discussing current events is so interesting on TOTV because it offers so many different points of view. TOTV has such a vast amount of readers and participators with a wealth of information and life experiences-that I enjoy 3-dementionally looking at the topics from these wonderful people.
Can someone please explain what is "in" and "out" of limits. Sure I understand the different "takes" on politics, but current events without mentioning "democratic or conservative" has me confused. I would think that an possible/eminent terrorist attack would NOT be political but in everyone's interest to understand.

I was confused also about why that thread was closed when I went on there to post an update that the embassy closings had been extended until August 10th. IMO this pertinent information is not political, one way or the other. Perhaps the moderator can explain why this action was taken.

Suzi: You ask some interesting questions for which I doubt any of us "regulars" on TOTV can answer. Personally, I had no problem with the Political forum because if you didn't want to discuss politics you just opt out---you had to opt into the forum in the first place. As to where the "line" is drawn on current events when there may be controversy---it appears that only the Adminstrator of TOTV can give an answer to you (us) as to when the Thread is closed. They (Admin. ) have a tough job at best.

I also would like to know what is allowed. Yesterday there was a post on here about whether a house should be put in a trust if you were a Canadian. Several people commented, including myself, none of it at all political, and the whole post has thread has been deleted.
This is a very important topic for Canadians buying property in Florida and I would like to know why we are not allowed to talk about it on this forum.

I believe if you flag your post (the red triangle in the upper right corner) you will have a box to type in a pm to admin.
Not sure if it is the designated way to do it, but I think you will get a pm in return to your question.

That thread is still alive and well...it's right behind this thread. Go to page two to see it.

as long as determination is done by an organization and represented by a human being there will be the bias of the organization and or the individual.....no different than any one of us has....except they either own it/something or are in a position of authority.

You're confusing the United States Constitution with a privately owned forum. If you were in my home, I would have the right to demand that you not do or say certain things. The admin has the right to stop threads as he deems fit.
Maybe the issue wasn't the topic but the opinions in the original thread and the OP who posts many similar type threads. I didn't bother reading the original post after a checking the wording of the OP. It was definitely political to my mind. Guess it's not political if it fits into your personal frame of mind.
