I bought a new Windows 8 laptop in March. I did not do my first backup until yesterday (yes, not a good idea, but I had backed up my documents, photos and music from my former laptop right before I got the new laptop, and I only added a few new photos and a couple of documents since March).

I now have the backup set to run automatically every hour which is the default backup setting for Windows 8. Does Windows 8 recopy all my files every hour, or does it just update files I have modified since the last backup and make copies of brand new files I have made since the last backup?

There are actually two different backup modes within Windows 8. One will do all the files including programs and data while the other will only do data files that are in the Libraries. Check out this video or Google Windows 8 Backup for a lot more details.
