View Full Version : In need of a fast food restaurant

There are times when a quality fast food restaurant is just what is needed. And an excellent location to start one would be where the McDonalds in Colony Plaza is located. There is even a place for a drive through - all one would have to do is make it operational. I arrived right around 5:00pm. No line in the Drive Thru. But I did not realize that I could sit there forever and no one would take my order. The woman with the head-set on seemed quite shocked when I drove by and asked her why she had not taken my order - or I may have woke her up. She seemed a little drugged up.
So, not to be discouraged I went inside to do a take out order. Very short wait in line. Not that many people there. I had plenty of time to observe while waiting for my order. There were actually more people in the kitchen then there were customers and yet there we stood while they got in each others way throwing sandwiches around ! Remember when McD's had the best fries (not here). It also would have been nice if the cheese on my 1/4 LB'r had actually been centered on the meat. Oh well obviously no more. Let's free up the space for someone who cares !!!!

Strange situation at that McDonald's. I've been there a number of times and found them to be very efficient. If your situation happen to me , I too would wonder "what's happening.". If I wasn't in a real hurry, I would speak to the manager. If I was, I would make it a point to speak to her/him as soon as possible with the date and time of this incident. A good manager would like to know about this mis-step of her/his employees and see that it does not happen again.

A couple of things I've observed at this particular store. IF one goes through the drive-through in a golf-cart sometimes it won't trip their "eye" to let them know you're there. Not sure why!
The other thing is I don't believe whomever built it had a concept how busy it would be! Have you ever been there during lunch-time? Hard to determine which is the order line (this is inside) and whose waiting for their order. Gets a bit crowded! During "high season"...I've observed vehicles streaming out onto the street just waiting to get into the lot--not sure if for the drive thru or just to park. Workers park their trucks in that vacant lot!

You are a daring soul. Didn't you know that craving a Big Mac was illegal in this neck of the woods????
A White Castle would be nice. Or, a Burger King. Or, how about a KFC.....?

The OP asks if anyone remembers when McDonalds fries were the best.
That was many, many years ago when the fries were fried in beef fat!
There is a restaurant in Portland, Maine, called Duckfat. They cook their fries in duck fat. Now, that is a delicious French Fry!

You've hit it re: Culver's!!! "IF" you google them---they are now in FL but one has to drive a distance for them! They're edging down to the south. They are in more than just the Midwest...just not here....YET!!! We would never darken the door of McD's, Burger King and others "IF" we had a Culver's here!!

White Castle? We used to call those "gut bombs". Had to eat about ten of them to make a meal.

Gee, I didn't need this thread so early in the AM, one of my favorite topics. I grew up on White Castles, first in Indianapolis, then Cincinnati. I need to see about the closest Whataburger, I know they are around Eglin AFB area, but no longer a regular stop. I prefer establishments that have Diet Dr Pepper. The best, and I have spoke of it here before, is In-Out Burger. I seldom wear my In-Out Burger shirt I don't get ask if I am from CA. Truth is I am not, but second thing I did when landing at LAX was to head to In-Out Burger and that was 2- 3times a month for over five years. A good Trader Joe's nearby too......
Live close to the Colony Mickey Ds, and put up with their shenanigans too, but they have a captive audience. Their manager is about the same level as their counter folks in my dealings but their help is quite untrained and inept..
Arby's here is not bad (and they have Dr Pepper too)

I remember them with great fondness. However, they did not have great french fries.
Believe it or not, the best french fries I ever had in my life were served in the soda fountain/drug store in Tappahannock, Va., where I went to high school. They had good milkshakes too. The next best were at a burger joint at LaGuardia Airport that's not there any more. No doubt they were all made with lard or beef fat.

Two each Wendy's Bowl of Chili and Baked Potato - good service and no 45 minute wait for a table.

We had a Wendy's near where I worked that had excellent fast food. Management makes a difference----sometimes it is the franchise owner that makes a difference. I am familiar with Culvers that others mentioned and they are a very well operated fast food restaurant. "quality"-----very had to define as we all have our standards. You can find reasonable healthy choices----even at McDonalds or a Wendy's. :icon_hungry:

I like White Castle because as a little kid in Columbus, Ohio it was a huge treat to be driven out to Bexley from the south end to have a White Castle. My boy cousin had to have his without the onions. He never has had good judgment.
I love White Castles and I wish there were Burgers like Burger Boy in Columbus used to make. YUM. They had car hops too, but not on skates.

Because they close on Sunday? It's "funny" I'm not big on chicken but I do like their chicken sandwich. We had one in our regional Mall here in Illinois until about 7-8 years ago---word on the street was it was closed because the Mall insisted they stay open on Sunday. Corporate management policy is not to discriminate against anyone because of race, religion, sexual preference etc. so I read on something posted in their lobby.....

In-N-Out Burger is #1. Anything off the "secret" menu is worth all in itself. Some of the fry combinations are ohhhhhh so good.
NOT for anyone watching their weight or on any type of a diet that's for sure. But once every in a while.
White Castle's are bad. I once tried to give one of the meat (?) patties to a hungry dog and he stuck up his nose and walked away after one sniff.

You need to try a Swenson's Burger. Swenson's is a small locally owned car hop type drive in Akron / Canton area. Many a college student paid their way through school working the lot. Car hops ALWAYS run to the cars to get the orders and then run it in to the cook.
Best burgers in the world for a local business. NOT fast food and always made to order. Galley Boy's were over the top of the good food scale.
I wonder if Henry ever got a chance to have one when he was visiting the AGO? There was one about a mile from the building.

No, but because the CEO, Dan Cathy, made a statement on the radio condemning gay marriage. ChikFilA has also donated millions of dollars to political groups opposing civil rights of some citizens. I prefer not to spend my money at such a franchise.

My political views and strong moral feelings go out the door when I am hungry.
Some don't like Walmart for their ethical reasons. I shop there.
You might call me ......a person with a lot of company.
I dig in on issues that matter to me enough that I won't buy a sandwich there. I am trying to think of one. ;)
OH...Clean is one. Fairly clean, apparently clean, no bugs *that I know of. Clean looking.

Another Chik-Fil-A fan here. Decent food, excellent attentive employees, and a clean place. Can you really say that about the McDonalds in the Colony shopping center? The last few times I was at McD, the flys outnumbered the customers.

Culver's rules. Fortunately I have two Culvers nearby: 1.5 miles from my home and 1 mile from my office (here in N.W. suburban Chicago). I think Culvers would do quite well in The Villages.

Yes, Culvers sells butter burgers and Wisconsin cheese curds. I won't tell if you won't either. Oh, my arteries are closing up as I post this. And they also sell salads! And delicious frozen custard. Yummy!

For all the White Castle fans (and I include myself as one), Krystal burgers come close, and they are just up the road in Ocala. It's where I go when I get a hankering for "belly bombers".
