I recently had a tune up because the golf cart started back firing. But that didn't help. Then I was told it needed a new carberator and battery. So I replace those. Well as I ride down the road it seems not to get gas...it hesitates and loudly pops and as I slow down to go into a tunnel or make a tune it pops but not as loud. Can anyone advise what might be causing it or recommend where I can take it because where I did take it I no longer have good feelings about their ability to repair a golf cart.

If you Google "golf cart backfiring", you will find descriptions of the most likely causes. When the throttle plate in the carb does not close completely, gas continues to enter the engine and a backfire occurs. A good mechanic should be able to fix this with adjustments if you have a new carb. Most gas carts do not have fuel injection and do not backfire.

May need a new clutch. Ours did and it cleared up the back firing.

Carb needs to be adjusted and nothing more.

Electric carts are clean and quiet. Oh, never mind with the rotten tomatoes! :throwtomatoes::throwtomatoes:

Rarely does the cart require a new carburetor, a backfire is an adjustment most of the time. Battery wasn't your cause either
In the case of the person who changed the clutch, it was that the clutch was worn and it allowed the motor to get into the Rev limiter thus causing the backfire. Most of the time however, it is not the clutch- but a simple adjustment.
You didn't mention brand of cart, but that too can play into how the backfire is repaired.

OP, I'm sure you are frustrated----I definitely would be. Sounds like you need a good golf cart mechanic. I don't know who you are taking your cart to---I would change before you pay him anymore.

Mine back fires occasionally too. Probably because the tailpipe faces the back otherwise it would be a front fire.
Time for a cocktail!

I didn't use my 2011 gas Yamaha from Dec to Feb. When I took it out, it did backfire a few times or would hesitate when I pushed on the gas. I remember when I bought the cart they recommended using hi-test gas. So I switched to hi-test and it's been running great ever since.

A simple solution would be to replace a spark plug wire. This was causing a back fire on my 1975 Nova many years ago.One of the wires were cracked that could not be seen by the naked eye and at times the connection was lost causing a back fire. This may or may not be your problem but it should only cost a few dollars to try.
