Getting Ink out of shirt

I have a new golf shirt and I wore it the other day. Inadvertently I got a red ball point ink stain on the front of the shirt. It's not very long, about 1/2 inch but I would love to get this stain out of the shirt. Are there any "fol proof" ways to get an ink stain out of a shirt?

Spray it with hair spray before washing. Be sure to double check that it has been removed before putting in the dryer.

Try soaking it in cold water. Next spray it with a stain remover while the shirt is still damp and leave it rolled up for several hours. Then open up the shirt and (over the kitchen sink) see if you can move the stain by gently rubbing the fabric together, it should at least get lighter and you could try dish detergent on it at this point. If all else fails, gently, very gently try dabbing the stain with diluted bleach. If all this fails see if the Dry Cleaners will try to get the stain out.

Hairspray is the fool proof method I've used for years. Rinse the spot afterwards before putting in the laundry.

Hairspray will do it. But after spraying gently blot the stain with a paper towel. Dont rub or you will just smear the stain.you might have to spray and blot several times but it should remove all the ink. After the ink is gone rinse the spot well and wash the shirt as usual. Should be good to go!

if all else fails, put the shirt on a towel, spray with surfactant like 409, put cloth (dishtowel is fine) on shirt to protect, use warm to warmer iron to absorb stain up onto the towel.
In my experience, chemicals don't work well on red dyes unless combined with heat.

My son had ink on his favorite pants when he was in High School. I was told to put them in the sink and pour rubbing alcohol on the stain and let soak and wow the next day the ink was gone ! The pants were soaking in the rubbing alcohol over night, I used five bottles .... Good Luck.

Here's the fool-proof answer - simple and guaranteed. Pour any white wine onto stain, allow to set for about a minute, blot with clean dry cloth. Wella!!!! Right before your very eyes, the stain will disappear - works on any stain especially on light colored carpet from red wine spill.

Kitty - I used the hair spray method and it worked after a few tries and blots.

I heard that spit works well to remove stains but I haven't tried it yet. It's supposed to work on the same principle as detergents and spot removers. There are digestive agents in those products and spit contains digestive agents.
