We attended a seminar this last weekend at the LSI in Tampa. Overall it seemed pretty impressive, as most seminars are. Has anyone here used this surgery center for relief, and if so, what have been your experiences? The situation involves pinched nerves in the lumbar area 3-4. Medication did not help, neither did medical massage nor long term chiropractic with the Davis group.

Before making a decision, suggest you get a consultation with either Dr. Ronzo or Dr. Bono at the Gulf Coast Spinal Institute here in TV, I believe Sumter Landing area. They come highly recommended by a physician who has used them in the past.

I would stay away from them. They usually want all the money up front. How you do depends alot on your age and physical condition. Most people are right back where thy started from in about a year.

I'll try to get you a reference. I play tennis in a group with a man whose first name is Don and is from Maryland. He thinks that the group walks on water and has the highest praise for them. He and his wife have both had surgeries there over the past several years, and he has been extremely pleased. One of his surgeries was done while the (particular) procedure was still considered experimental by Medicare, so he bore the entire cost of the procedure. Whatever that procedure was, he said it is now covered by Medicare, but that he would gladly pay for it again if it was not covered.

He had used John Hopkins before using them, and thought they were light years ahead of John Hopkins in expertise. I'll try and get you a name and telephone number.

I would do your due diligence rather than taking advice from someone who knows someone whose neighbor had such and such.

In coming to T.V. I had severe disc issues so my primary referred me to Dr. Daniel Spurrier, who is a neuro-surgeon. He's here in T.V. and comes with *excellent credentials. I had a dissectomy on my ruptured disc. While in the emergency room, in the hospital room, surgery wait/area and later home with home-health-care, he was highly praised by every one I spoke with. The physical therapist given to me said he'd seen "many" folks who'd had various practioners but by far he'd recommend Dr. Spurrier after seeing botched procedures etc. I think there is a thread on here that talks about the Lazar Spinal Center---several would not recommend it.

Husband has a consultation appointment with Dr. Spurrier mid-September. After looking at the LSI malpractice experience, we are treating lightly. Thanks for your info on Dr. Spurrier as well.

Dr. Spurrier did my surgery three weeks ago yesterday. It was non-invasive for bone spurs in my spine which were pressing on the nerve. It was a 45 minute surgery. I spent 4-5 days in bed although I was up and walking within an hour or two. I still have some pain, but am getting better every day. Even thinking of going out to chip and putt on Sunday. Of course I need to call his office today to see if that would be ok. Good luck to you. I don't think Dr. Spurrier will do surgery on you unless he really feels he can help you.

When I had non-evasive surgery with him...was released to go home BUT NOT to ride in cars or carts once there. I was not to bend, twist or lift anything heavier than a soda can---and rest and do what the home-health-care folks told me. I saw him after two weeks of rest when he said I could get on with "LIFE" and do anything I felt up to. You are wise though to check with him first!! You are correct, he won't do surgery unless it's the last resort. I have a friend whom he gave exercise instructions instead and they're doing fine now!!
