We are looking for an independent tile contractor, one who will pick up tile and grout we have preselected and paid for at Home Depot or Lowe's and install it in our 9 X 15 (approx. since it has been enclosed) lanai.
There is no tile to take up, the tile will be placed on concrete that is cured
very nicely since the villa is about eight years old. Has anyone used and can recommend someone like this? Thanks.

We used William C. Parker (Billie) as did a few of our neighbors to do our backsplash and counter wall and were thrilled with his work. 352-347-0954

I called Billie and he doesn't do tile floors. I will give Ken a call. The lanai is approx.
7 by 13 or 91 sq ft. This is a small job and I would like to pay by the sq. ft. Thanks.

Ken Bridges won't use tile from Home Depot nor Lowe's. He says tile won't match since they mix color lots. He didn't let me explain I only had 91 sq ft. I found someone
in the paper who was supposed to come out for an estimate yesterday and do the job
this coming Monday but he was a no show!

Just to let you know , when you buy boxes of tile, on the box will be a the lot or run number of the tile. Same numbers on the lot number should match. Last year I hired a tile guy and he told me to go to HD to pick out a tile. I did, with all same matching numbers. He did the bathroom floor, which was 110 sq ft. With many different cuts. He charged me around 500.00 dollars/ $5 a sq ft. This guy has been doing tile his whole life, that's all he does. Labor gets priced by the sq ft, than you add the price of tile. That's how it's done. In lowes or HD you will see many well known tile manufacturers.

Just to be clear - you paid $5 a sq ft for installation and then the price of the tile was added in?

You can try Bill Smith at Smith's Tile Renovations, 352-288-3240 or 321-205-3198. He has done work for us and we recommended him to friends for a very big job that required the tile to be lined up just so from one room to the next. The result was beautiful.

Yes, we have done this before, several homes. Just getting someone to do it down here even before the snowbirds come back has been a problem. But I don't give up
and I found someone who KEPT THE APPOINTMENT for the estimate!!!
I have picked out tile (all from same pallet and lot number so it will be the same color)
and grout and he will pick up the tile, grout, and kwikset and install on Monday.
NOTE FOR NEWBIES HAVING TILE LAID......Make sure you SEAL THE GROUT unless you
like scrubbing and sealing grout.

I didn't want to post until the job was completed and I was happy with the work. The person's name is Danny Carr and he owns DC Tile. He is local,
from here, lives in Summerfield. Phone # is 352-266-7016.
Tell him you saw the recommendation on Talk of the Villages.
My lanai was tiled yesterday. He uses quickset mortar so the tile was laid
in the morning and right after lunch they came back and did the grout.
I am very pleased with the job. He had to do some special measuring because the area to be tiled was 1 inch of square probably due to the lanai
or when the former owners had it enclosed and put 8" tile around the perimeter. I needed about 100 square feet of tile, of course had to buy more for the cuts. He came on time, had a helper who also knew what he was doing but was closely supervised, was very nice.
They didn't play the loud music which we have found is common with contractors.
OK, as to cost I paid 99 cents each for tile. This is a second home (villa)
and I didn't want to go overboard. If there wasn't already 8 inch tile all around the perimeter of the lanai I would have just stained the cement floor myself. Grout was about $15 for the bag and the quickset was about $45. He supplied the membrane that covered the stress joint in the middle of the lanai so the tile wouldn't crack. I paid in total around $400 for the whole job. The closest thing for same ceramic tile from a storefront dealer
they wanted 5.99 a sq ft so for all the trouble I saved about
$200. That may not be a lot to some but it us for us.
Paid him $240 for the labor which included picking up the prepaid tile and supplies from Home Depot and the membrane. I hope this helps.

You can call Brian at 262-409-0931. You would love this guy! He not only is good at what he does but just a real gem to get to know. He does take a while but it's because he does such good work and is in demand.
