A QUESTION HAS COME UP MANY TIMES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. DO WE PAY FOR SQUARE ENTERTAINMENT WITH OUR DUES OR DO THE SHOP OWNERS PAY FOR IT.

The consumer pays. There is no formal charge to shop owners as far as I know. If so, however, the cost of doing business directly in The Villages is higher i.e. higher tenency cost, construction cost, architectural requirements, landscaping, specialized lighting etc. This higher cost of doing business is passed directly through to the consumer via consumer prices. The higher cost of tenency paid to The Villages by the shops may be enough to support the entertainment offering but a fraction of the amenities fee may go toward support as well. Either way, you pay. No free lunch here.

I think the point I was trying to make was missed. If the vendors indeed pay for entertainment on the square, this cost is passed through to the consumer via the prices paid for their goods and services. In essence, we pay.

Big deal. All businesses pass their costs on to the consumer. Actually, I believe the entertainment is paid for by the developer with I am sure reimbursement from the store owners and operators.

As a retail business owner in The Villages, I do know that businesses that lease retail space from The Villages pay a percentage of their sales to them. Where this money goes (except profit) is a question. That said, I agree with Peepop....big deal and who cares.

Who cares. We all enjoy the entertainment. Let's all just enjoy. The drinks have gone up on both squares so I guess we all pay.
