I recently got a job as a gate attendant. I didn't realize all that was involved in the job description. There's a lot of things that they do that I'm sure nobody realized. After going through the orientation and training at one of the busiest gates, I'm honored to be a gate attendant and would like to give an "Atta Boy" to others that hold this position. If it wasn't for us, there would be more traffic accidents! as well as folks wandering around looking for the right directions!!!:bigbow:

Would you care to enlighten us on all they do? I do appreciate you, but aside from opening the gates and giving directions occasionally, I would be interested in what else the job encompasses.

And you're are correct that the job is an important one and we've used the service for directions on more than one occasion. Always appreciate the greetings from the attendant and I'm happy to return the greeting. Now if we could only get you to open the gates when it's raining so we don't have to keep opening the window during the downpours would be greatly appreciated. :)
And while I'm at it, why is it that some auto gates can be opened without opening the window for the card scan!!!!!!! If a couple of these can work reading the card without opening the window why can't all of them open that way? My automatic window motor would appreciate it :clap2:

When I am in The Villages, I always enjoy going through the gates on Morse just north of 466 to get a wave and a smile from the gate attendants.

Are the gates on Morse just north of 466 staffed 24/7? The latest I ever entered that gate was probably around 11:00 p.m.

What other gates in TV have gate attendants?

Regulating the flow of traffic to allow the flow of golf carts transitioning from the roadways onto the multi-modal paths and vice versa. If there were no Gate Attendants at Sunset Pointe or Morse South, golf carts would be getting run over on a daily basis, or they would be backed up 100 deep trying to cross the roadway. So in essence they help save lives. Now of course when you add the human factor, no system is perfect. Thanks for what you do.

did you know that if you sit at the place where you wave your card, it will open in 30 seconds? Good info for these downpours lately.

Good way to get the five people behind you to totally freak out.

What is the reasoning that some gates have attendants and others do not?

We acknowledge residents/visitors by waving or verbal greetings, we regulate visitor traffic lane, monitor mechanical operations of the gate, assist resident/visitors with directions/word map/information,
we report gate damage, we accurately relate accident/incident information to Emergency Responders, we ensure the expedient passage of Emergency Vehicles and we observe and report suspicious persons, vehicles and /or lost pets. When there is a lot of traffic all this keeps us very busy.

Do you mean they would have to wait an ENTIRE 30 SECONDS??????? That would be terrible!

I certainly hope the attendants at the Morse Gate just past 466 get paid more or a raise. I watch them and they do it all without everyone smashing into one another! 2 lanes of traffic and golf carts. That has to be about the busiest gate in TV. :bigbow: to all the attendants!

The gates where traffic is the heaviest- have attendants to control flow of traffic. I believe Morse Blvd is the busiest.

One wish I have is for gate attendants not to open the visitor gate at the exact moment that the resident gate opens. Two cars going through gates at the same time isn't safe.

Well said. I generally have to look to the left to make sure a visitor vehicle isn't rushing up past me.

I was going to McDonalds one early morning and I beeped the horn and asked the Lady Aattendent how she liked her coffee....... She was shocked when I came around and gave her coffee. I do appreciate the kind smile and wave at the gate at Morse and Pineallas.

Yes, the Morse-466 gate is staffed 24/7

I find that the attendants at the Sunset Pointe gate let visitors and residents go through at the same time. This is so dangerous. An accident is waiting to happen at this gate. We all would appreciate it if they take more care on this issue.

I don't know how busy the Shay gate is, but there's only one lane and no arm, so having that staffed seems peculiar to me. But it's nice to get the wave and smile.

If I'm going in a staffed gate like Boone and the attendant has let a visitor through at the same time, I always slow or even stop to yield to that person. Because they sure won't for me!
