Nails on street, Amherst Way in Gilchrist

construction is mind-blowing here in Gilchrist. just picked up 5 large nails on Amherst. You can easily see 'em from the golf cart. Soooo....neighbors, please help...I've had too many flats. If you get one, Sumter tire in wildwood is fabulously efficient and inexpensive.

AND somebody on totv in past posted who should be called about doing a magnet drag...anybody know?

I feel your pain. We just picked up a screw in our cart tire today, we think at Captiva Rec Center. My husband was playing pickleball and when he got home he informed me that the cart was getting a flat. The reason I think the flat happened at the rec center is because I jogged over there this morning and in the parking lot I picked up a screw. So, it's a good bet he picked on up on the tire in the parking lot. We also picked up a nail on our SUV tire shortly after moving here when our neighborhood was under construction. That was a pricey nail. We keep our eyes peeled when in the golf cart for nails and screws in the road. If we can do it safely, we stop and pick them up and throw them put of the way.

yep, had nail in the edge of a $225 tire, couldn't be patched from the inside, had to buy a tire.

It only had 3000 miles :swear:

I too am part of the tire club...grrr. Same place... on the edge requiring a new tire. A lot of nails and screws around here :)

I would call the warranty dept 352-753-6222
They know what builders are building on the various streets and can contact them and have them sweep the streets.

When e lived in Pennecamp, I noticed one of the Community Watch trucks driving throught very slow. I wondered what was up with that, and then I noticed that there was a huge bar across the front of the truck about 2-3 inches off the ground. I assumed it was one of those magnets and was picking up ferrous metals.

Maybe the developer should require contractors to pay into an escrow account on each street of construction so people getting nails in tires could collect from the escrow account to pay for tire repairs/replacements. Then the contractor might be more careful if he thought it would come out of his profit. Maybe the new home warranty should cover nails in tires!

Community Watch truck with a front mounted magnet used to come through here often too but have not seen them for quite a while now.

Kitty, Call Community Standards at (352) 751-3912 and ask for the construction office. Ask that the builders have the street cleaned and definitely mention the nails.

I have lived in construction areas. No problems. But each crew cleaned up after themselves. One even sweep the dirt off the street. Guess it is the standards you set for your. subs.
