Gene & Barbara - we currently live in Goodyear, AZ, but don't hold that against us....we're moving to Florida's Friendliest Hometown as soon as we sell in AZ. It's 113 degrees today. I do have to admit, though, that with a humidity of only 6 percent it's not as bad as it sounds. In fact, I played a set of tennis doubles this morning followed by a short practice of softball. Have visited The Villages many times and looking forward to viewing the newest recreation center and the soon to be built 3rd Town Square. Don't forget just how fortunate you folks are to live where you do. Take care.

Hi! I am Helen and my husband Gary and I live next door at Spruce Creek South. We love the Villages and rented a villa there for 3 months before buying here. We just happened into a great deal at the time here and made a decision. We partronize your restaurants, movie theaters, Town Squares, and have also met some great lasting friends in the Villages. We have also introduced many friends from our home state of Michigan into staying in the Villages in the winter.
Have a great day!

Oshunluva:

Absolutely no regrets. My friends in St. Louis thought I'd gone off my rocker when I told them I was moving to Fla, but most of them think Florida is high-rise million-dollar condos along the beach, so they didn't (don't) understand.

I've made more and better friends here in my two-plus years than I ever really did in my 42-plus years in the same house up north. Yes, there are undoubtedly cliques, but there are so many activities, clubs, like-minded people that you can always find compatible folks.

There are 16 homes with 29 people on my cul-de-sac. We get together every first Friday and have a great time. The entire street gets along very well, and I have three neighbors who vie to take care of The Cat when I travel (which is fairly often).

I suppose I should note that I do NOT play any of the games that consume folks here, so I'm a bit "off the wall," perhaps, but that certainly hasn't been a detriment to my enjoyment of the place. Sure, it helps that my brother lives near by (not in The Villages) and his friends (they live at an airpark and everyone has a hangar bigger than the house) provide a wonderful change from the frequent conversations about golf - I only have to listen to conversations about their flying activities!

Hope you're coming soon and that you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Steve

Hi My husband Ron and myself (Beth) moved here Sept 06. We grew up in Lockport, NY. I worked for GM/Delphi for 30 years, Ron worked in home remodeling. We now live in the Village of Silver Lake and really love it. We have met so many wonderful people and there is something to do for everyone here. In May of last year I had never heard of this place before, we visited Memorial Day Week-end week and went home owners of a house in the Villages. Anyone considering that move just come visit and you will be greatly pleased with what you see!!!

We live in Winifred. When we came there were about 35,000 people. We knew it would be growing and predictions are 100,000 by 2011. Right now I think there is probably 60,000 or so. We can tell the difference with the way some people act. You will always have a few bad apples in the bunch; a few bad drivers, both with cars and golfcarts. A few grumpy people, but just remind them where they live and that should straighten them out. A gentle reminder to you newer retirees. You use to have to scurry here and there when you were working, but now you can take all the time in the world. Just relax and enjoy your surroundings when in the grocery line or at the gas pump. Smile at the bank teller as you wait in line. Think of your children or grandchildren when waiting for your food at any of the wonderful restrurants you can visit. Breath the wonderful Florida night air as you watch the linedancers at the squares. Fall into bed exhausted but happy for another wonderful day in The Villages and say "Thank you Lord".

We moved to our new home in Mallory Square in October, 2006 after selling our family home on Chicago's North Shore. Our plan was to spend from mid-September until late May in The Villages, going north to our summer home in southwest Michigan for the summer months. We did that this year, but we've already agreed that in 2008, we won't leave The Villages until maybe July 4, returning in mid-September.

In future years, who knows? Maybe we'll just do a "European one-month vacation" at our summer home. The kids better get ready to take it over.

Hi,

Martha and Ralph here. We have been living in Bonnybrook since Spring 2004 (when it was the most Southern point of TV). When we were looking to buy, my instructions were that we wanted a house near the Square (thinking of Spanish Spirngs). When our sales rep, Joe DeLeo, showed us the house we (upon looking at several), I reminded himof our condition. He pointed out the window and said, "Ralph, see that construction going on - which is 10 or 15 minutes from here -, that's the new Square [Lake Sumter]". We bought, and find that we are virtually in the middle of everything in TV.

HELLO TO ALL!
We are on our way to TV in three weeks!!!! Just can't stop grinning. We are from St. Ignace, Michigan and decided last winter that it would be our last winter in the upper peninsula of Mi.
Our brother lives in Summerhill and we spent a month house hunting in TV last April.
Our home had been on the market for one year without even one looker. We weren't buying til ours sold...so we rented a villa by DE LA Vista. Much to our surprise the first person that looked at our home bought it!! WOO-HOO...so starting Sept 1st we are house hunting in TV for real...

Any ideas? N or S of 466? We are wanting an Austin.... So excited, Linda

rballruss
07-31-2007, 03:21 PM
Well...you asked for it. The rest of the story is, we had the boat up for sale, but in February, it sank. There were high winds on Valentines Day, which caused a loss of power, which resulted in our heaters to cut off. Sea strainers froze, allowing seawater to rush into the boat. (By the way, we are in The Villages while all of this is happening). This all happens in the early morning hours. The bilge pumps probably kept up with pumping the water out until the batteries were depleted. My buddy calls me in the morning and tells my "your boat is down." Insurance didn't want to cover. After months of wrangling, we finally did get them to cover our entire loss. That was the interesting story.

My sister and I bought in the Villages , Duval, and closed on January 11, 2007. We came back in March and May to buy furniture, fans, and stock a complete household. We live in Hamburg, New York and are still working. We plan on retiring in August of 2008, God willing, and will probably be "Snow Birds" for a few years. I have heard about the vinyl siding problem with Duval homes, so I plan on having it inspected before the year is up. We are coming back for a week in October, then count the days to retirement. Any Duval residents having problems with the vinyl siding? Is the Village Property Management helping to fix these problems? I am curious. Janet and Carol

We're in the "younger" Village of Duval. As I travel throughout TV, I definitely get a sense of the difference in various villages. I think the realtors channel people into specific villages. Not exactly stereotyping, more like accommodating. It's a good thing!!
I think the idea of each Village having a page is a good one.
Great, great site here. Keep it up. I support and applaud all of you connected with TOTV

JanetandCarol - I too live in Hamburg... over near the SouthShore Golf course in the Marrano countrywoods development.. have done alot of homework on TV and even visited a couple friends who respectively were renting and living in TV. The friend who lives there , lived up here in Williamsville... she's been down there for almost 2 years and loves it... I'm trying to decide whether to buy new or buy resale. Probably will not get down to TV until retirement (4Q08?).... also trying to decide on particular town - I liked Sunset Pointe, Liberty, Duval, area when I was down. Guess I want to be south nearer the more newer golf course (Havana) and the future ones! Have a contact in TV for real estate (Leo) but am trying to find an 'outside realtor' to cover all the bases. (ps - before she passed away my wife owned and operated the Irish Angels Gift Shop (corner Main and Buffalo)... hopefully you had the time to shop there!)...

We now have "round-a-bouts" in the Village of Hamburg, just like the Villages. Thank God that we are used to using them. We are expecting snow this weekend, welcome to the North. JanetandCarol

Judy and I live in the San Francisco Easy Bay city of Union City (about 10 miles south of the Oakland Coliseum where the A's (YEAH) and Raiders (BOO) play).

I plan on retiring at the end of next year and spending winters in the house we bought two years ago in the Village of Stonecrest and summers in the Victorian home that has been in Judy's family since the late 40's on a mountain lake about 3 hrs drive North of San Francisco (thru the Napa Valley). My mother has lived in Orange Blossum Hills for over 15 years and we have visited the area many times since she moved down from the Chicago burbs.

Judy is a Dental Hygienist and will work during the summers in Ca (while I fish - sure!) for a few more years but can't practice in Fla due to license restrictions.

We have our house on the market and plan to permanently move by 2009.

We are still trying to figure out what we want, new or used, house or courtyard villa.
Too many decisions.
We are having a great time looking each time we come down.

We live in Franklin, MA. Were in TV last Jan on the lifestyle 6 day program. Seemed very busy & hectic. Coming again Jan. for a month. Still undecided. Have a sailboat. How close to ocean marinas are you? Anyone out there ocean sailors?

Russ_Boston

jbladybnugg - Norton MA here.

I think busy and hectic are the draws in my opinion. I don't think it's the place for Ocean Sailing but you must be 50 miles or so from your boat now by living in Franklin so maybe the 70+ miles to the ocean may not bother you.

Hi I'm Brad and my wife is Rose Ann. We are snowbirds roosting in Sabal Chase. We currently live in Louisville, KY where our kids are settled and my wife still works. My sister and I also own a family house on Lake Sunapee, NH. Don't know how much time we'll be spending where but I'm hoping the bulk of it will be in TV. We love it there. My brother-in-law moved to Mallory Square last year and sent us the video. I thought it was the hokiest thing I'd ever seen and swore I'd never live in a place like that. We made a courtesy visit to see their new house, and we fell in love with the place. We bought the same weekend. Just goes to show you...you've got to see this place to believe it!!

This addition can easily be done by going in under Members and adding this information in the area for signature.

I live in Greenbriar Villas, in the Village of Briar Meadow - right next to Lopez, a great location. I moved here in November, 2007 from Louisville, KY and love it here. It is wonderful being away from the cold and dreary Louisville winters.

Summer here was great; I did not mind the heat at all (and, yes, there was plenty of that); after all, even in Louisville most of the summer was very hot and humid. Just bring on the sunshine and that makes my day! There is still so much to do, and there is always the pool, movies, shopping, clubs, etc. And the opportunity to be situated to where we can visit beaches all over the state for short trips is outstanding.

There is such a different traffic pattern in the summertime, so it is much easier to get around, park, get golf tee times, etc, and there are amazing specials offered everywhere because of the slower time for merchants. If you haven't stayed in The Ville for a summer, you should try it. Freeda Clark
