I am new here so I will defer about the fire and ambulance. However, I was surprised to find out, when talking to Community Watch, that there is no police in The Villages. I see Sheriff cars all the time, but a Community Watch person told me that they basically handle everything and if there is something they can't handle, they call in Wildwood or Leesburg police.

The Villages has fire and ambulance stations throughout the community. Police services are performed by the sheriff in Sumter and Marion county areas and by Lady Lake police in the Lake County portion.

The Villages has a nationally recognized fire and Emt service. The response time if far below (better) than national/state averages. Very well trained and as stated there are several strategicly located throughout the Villages. Have not had the occasion to utilize them but have read articles and have heard great reviews from those who have. We feel confident in them!

Unfortunately, due to aging parents, we have bad to use the ambulance services four times. Each time I was amazed and impressed with the responsiveness, knowledge and professionalism of the EMS staff. I can't say the same about the service in the emergency room.

Our neighborhood joined dozens of others in buying AED's placed in our neighborhood and having teams of neighbor-responders ready for a call from 911 dispatch, to go running to the home and victim before the ambulances leave the station.....or a key point: the paramedics could be out on other calls and might not be able to respond as soon as neighbors.

In 2010....."Chief Lazenby trained about 1300 Villagers into the program last year and is on pace to train over 1500 this year. Simon gives briefs on the program almost every week throughout the region and has expanded the program into more than six surrounding counties. He recently established a non-profit support organization called Neighbors Serving Neighbors, Inc. Trained Villagers and over 100 AED’s in neighborhoods and at Sport Pools and Recreation Centers are contributing to victims of cardiac arrest in The Villages having a chance of survival 7 to 8 times higher than the national average......"

Also: Medivac helicopter is stationed on Powell Road next to Brownwood town square. See medivac activity yesterday in thread here on TOTV about Accident at BV (Buena Vista Blvd) and 466.

The Villages is big - we span five political jurisdictions to some degree - so some services get 'murky'. The Villages is not incorporated so we do not have our own law enforcement agency. Depending on where you live, you may be served by the Lake County Sheriff (very little), the Marion County Sheriff (maybe 15% of The Villages) or the Sumter County Sheriff (the largest area) BUT in those portions of Lake County within the city limits of Lady Lake, the Lady Lake Police Department serves your law enforcement needs (that includes Spanish Springs Town Square). At the newest town square, Brownwood, that is in the city of Wildwood and is served by the Wildwood Police Department as is a small area surrounding the new square. The Villages does have it's own Public Safety Department (fire and paramedics) and works well in mutual aid situations with surrounding fire agencies. The fire department does respond on medical calls with paramedics but does not provide patient transport. Patient transport in Lake County is provided by Lake EMS under contract to the county government; patient transport in Marion County is provided by Marion County Fire/EMS; and patient transport in Sumter County is provided by Rural Metro Ambulance under contract to Sumter County government. It sounds disorganized but it is not, it works extremely well.

For the residents of the Villages of Silver Lake, Country Club Hills and Orange Blossom Gardens are these villages served by the Lady Lake Police Department or the Lake County Sheriff?

There are thousands of retired professionals living here who have successfully managed enterprises much, MUCH larger than The Villages. Upon moving here, many do not just sit, and they do not stop lending their expertise and management insights where needed.

In fact, they get involved in community services and oversight, because they want TV to stay as nice as the developer planned and built it.

This is why we do not fret as some do, about TV remaining pristine and smartly maintained, perfected and solvent.

If you have any health issues, you should read some of the many threads on the various hospitals in the area. Getting to health care has not been a problem, deciding where you can get the best treatment is a big decision.
