We will be coming for a visit in Oct to check out our lot and neighborhood (which we have never seen in person) and to get a head start on the Design decisions we will make at our Nov 25 Design meeting.
We are only going to be there for 5-6 days over the Columbus Day weekend. Probably Wed Oct 9 to Tues Oct 15. We haven't bought our Airline tickets yet.
We are looking for suggestions on where to stay. I looked at rental homes, but very few are interested in 1 week rentals it seems. We thought it would be great to stay somewhat near our lot and check out the area.
Do any of you know if the any of the local motels have golf cart access? The Waterfront Inn looks very nice but I am not sure I want to spend $130 a day. Plus golf cart rental.
We would like to rent a golf cart and pretend that we already have our house built. Play some golf, swim, go to the squares, restaurants etc. and check out newly built homes and the models for design ideas. (our lot is in Gilchrist)
This will only be our 2nd visit! But we can't wait until Nov to come back!!
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thx!

dotti105, If you don't mind staying near or at Spanish Springs, check out the Comfort Suites, the Holiday Inn Express or the TownePlace Suites by Marriott. I know you can have a golf cart at the Comfort Suites and The TownePlace Suites. You could call the Holiday Inn Express to see if they have golf cart access. The TownePlace Suites is right next to the movie theater in Spanish Springs. The Comfort Suites and the Holiday Inn Express are about 3 blocks from Spanish Springs. I have stayed at all three properties, and all are nice. I will be staying at the Comfort Suites for one night before my LSV starts in October.
If you want to stay at The Waterfront Inn, maybe your sales rep. could get you a lower rate than $130, although that may be the lowest rate for The Waterfront Inn.
And if you have a AAA Motor Club membership or an AARP membership, you can usually save about $10 per night on your hotel. Doesn't hurt to check out those rates. Hope that helps and have a great visit in October!

Forgot to add, if you check ****.com, there are a few homes that will rent by the night, usually 5 nights minimum. And I have gotten several one week (7 night rentals) on thevillages4rent.com since 2011 -- in the villages of Chatham, Mira Mesa, Summerhill, Sabal Chase and Del Mar. I have found one week rentals are usually pretty easy to come by from May through October as some owners would rather rent for one week at a time than let their house stay empty during the slower season.

You could check with your realtor. Maybe she could set you up with one of the homes they use for lifestyle previews. Just a thought....

Can't you rent through TV like people do for the Lifestyle Preview Visit?

Thanks for all the info. Our Sales rep could get us a discount at one (can't remember which right now, but it was still $129/night.
We have a home order stay confirmed for Nov, but she did not offer a LSV for this stay, I think they want live potentials and we have already signed on the dotted line.
I will try asking her again more directly.
Can't wait to get back there!!!

I always use Hotwire.com. I checked and there is a hotel in The Villages for $62 a night for the time period you suggested. If you know anything about Hotwire.com, you know that they do not reveal the hotels name until you buy and there are no refunds.
But by process of elimination, it looks like it's the Holiday Inn Express with free breakfast and a pool. It's off of 441 and you could use a golf cart from there, although it would take some time to get to the Sumter Landing.

I don't think they'll have access to the rec centers, pools and executive golf courses until they close on their house. That will rule out the activities you suggest. Maybe their sales rep can pull some strings.

The Waterfront Inn will give discount if you say you are working with the sales office, also if you know a resident they can give their ID # at the Waterfront Inn and I think it's like 20 or 25% off. (This is unless they have changed their policy lately)

dotti105 - the holiday inn express on 441/27 is golf cart accessible, is clean and offers a pool and great complimentary breakfast. hubs and i stayed there 3/4 days before taking possession of our house several years ago. it currently has an on-line booking rate of $89 - but you might be able to get that rate if you call directly and explain you don't like to use your credit card on-line - and you can ask if there are any restrictions on that rate such as the time of year it is offered. the brochure shows it as bing in wildwood - but it also indicates it is in the villages - and that it is! scroll to about mid-page to find it...

My wife and I were there in July for the build on our house, we stayed close to Sumter Landing in one of the cottages. We were there for six days and the cost was only about $600.00. Cheaper than staying in a hotel. We didn't have much free time. Meeting with the designer took 3 days and 1 day to go over the paper work and write a check for the down payment. By the way our lot is also in Gilchrist.

Our Sales Rep was able to get us the rate to rent the LSV Villa when we came in to do what you are doing.

The Waterfront Inn would be your best bet if your lot is S of 466A and I am assuming it is but it is pricey. We usually put our son and his wife there when they visit. In July I was able to get a room for about $104 per night on Expedia.com.
I would think your sales rep could fix you up with a rental or a discount on the Waterfront Inn.
We just rented a house in Largo for our other son and his family for a week for $500. We had to give a $300 security deposit but got it back within a few days of their leaving. The rental included a golf cart and was a very nice 3 bedroom home with tile floors, king bed in master and Roman shower. The owners come in the winter so I do not know if it is available in October but the man that handled it has others. You can pm me if you want his name and phone number.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I think we will go another route and try for a weekly rental south of 466A with golf cart.
Wendyquat, I will PM you, I think we would enjoy ourselves more if we were renting a place in the Gilchrist area (ideally).
My Sales Agent said she could not get us into LSV lodging. We are booked for our Home Purchase trip in Nov. So that is set.
Thanks for all the helpful info! You guys never let me down!!

We stay at this rental for the months of February and March. Wonderful unit and owners. They have availability for October 1-14. Centrally located in Hemingway. Send Mitzi an email if you are interested. She will get back to you immediately. On The Villages 4 Rent web site it is listing 1676.

TownPlace will give you their Villager discount. Tell them when you make reservations and stick a copy of your agreement to buy the lot in your bag in case they want proof. We stayed there last December over Christmas while waiting to close. I told them when I made reservations we were coming down to close. They were very nice and never did ask to see our card.

The Villages sales office can get you a LSV rental for 2-3 days before and during your design visit but if you go to Villages4rent and filter for weekly rental availability you will find quite a few willing to rent for a week during your time in TV.
