View Full Version : Screen Names

Dr Winston O Boogie jr

Many of us use our real names or version of our names as out screen names. Many other, however, myself included use names that seems, except to us, to have nothing to do with our real names.

I want to take a minute to explain my screen name and give others who wish to do so the same opportunity.

First, I am not a doctor. I don't even play one on television. Although I don't actually have a doctorate in Beatles history, many people might claim that I should. ( You can, by the way, earn a master's degree in The Beatles and a Canadian woman has done so.

Dr Winston O'Boogie, was a pseudonym that was made up and used by John Lennon when he became famous and didn't want people to know he was involved in something.

When Elton John asked if he could record a version of John's Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, John gave him the go ahead. Elton then asked his good friend John to play on the record. John agreed but insisted that he not be listed on the album credits. He instead was listed as Dr Winston O'Boogie Jr. (John's middle name was Winston)

Later when a newspaper wanted an interview he said that he would sen them one. He them proceeded to interview himself with Dr Winston O'Boogie asking the questions and John Lennon answering. He used this pseudonym many times after the Beatles disbanded.

In the not too long ago past, I played John in several Beatles tribute bands. I had a few of my own Beatles tribute bands and became somewhat of an expert on the history and trivia of the band. I also ran a little thing called a Beatles Jam in which musicians could come and sit in in a sort of open mic night doing Beatles songs. I called this the Dr Winston O'Boogie, Jr Beatles Jam. Many Beatles aficionados got it, but most normal people have no idea why it was called that or why I billed myself as Dr. Winston O'Boogie, Jr.

So here I am today in the Villages coming to you as Dr Winston O'Boogie, Jr. And if you're not doing anything on a Friday morning, you are invited to come to a meeting of The Beatlemaniacs of the Villages, a club that I started, and have a lot of fun.

Next!

Mine isn't as impressive as yours but here goes. I worked at a Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Mi. cafeteria in the deli dept making sandwiches and I'm a mom and I don't know why I picked 2000 (maybe that's how many sandwiches I made in a week). Hence delima2000

There was a thread on this a while back, but my search turned up nothing. My screen name is fairly complex. My real name is Ed Weissenbach, but that is obviously far to long to use as a user name.

Bryant. The name of the street I hung out on as a kid in the Bronx.

BritParrothead. Why?
I am a Brit from the south coast of England, and I am a Jimmy Buffett fan, hence Parrothead:thumbup:

Good move shortening that up.

Mine is a simple homage to the British television series, The Prisoner. The similarity between "The Village" and "The Villages" is striking.

"Be seeing you."

Yes, I know all about the original Dr. Winston O'Boogie, and reading your posts using that screen name always brings a smile to my face. I am looking forward to meeting you, having waited 13 years for a Beatles appreciation group to be started in TV.

As for me, Country Dreamer was inspired by Paul McCartney: You and I country dreamer, make my country dream come true and John Lennon: You may say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope some day that you will join us, and the world will live as one..............

In another lifetime I used the phase "just Jim saying, keep swinging and never give up" as I was signing off on my Golf Association's monthly newsletter. Why, I said that---have no idea---just needed a way to close my article. So, Justjim came to mind when I first logged on to TOTV. Hardly anyone names their baby boy's "James" these days but back in the 1940's it was a popular name as noted by all the Jim's around TV.

An older married acquaintance whom I would encounter and visit with from time to time liked to hear about my latest exploits as a divorced man in his fifties with way too much free time on his hands. He would always ask me about the latest and obviously vicariously enjoyed what he heard. He dubbed me a bon vivant and man about town. Until it was hacked I used a form of bon vivant as the screen name on my social email account. Since man about town was still available I use a form of it on my TOTV account.

Well, what are you waiting for. We're at the O'Dell rec center every Friday morning from 10:00 until 12:00. It's the most fun club in the Villages.

Cloud Nine .... It's the name of our 36 foot Freedom sailboat that we navigated the waters of Narragansett and Buzzards bays for many years . Happy memories... Hopefully, the years spent as Villagers will be as joyful on a land based Cloud Nine as well :-)

When I first started in chat sites back in the 90s I was Alley Oop but no one knew who Alley Oop was and they all thought I was a girl (Alley). So I decided on caveman since Alley Oop was the ultimate caveman but I added the Z so I would always appear at the bottom the the lists.

I chose my screen name because I had marched with a drum corps called the New York Skyliners Senior Drum & Bugle Corps and after two years with Sky, I retired from drum corps at the end of the 1979 season of competition.

I first marched in the mid 60's with another corps called the Interstatesmen Senior Drum & Bugle Corps from NYS's Capital District while I was in high school, another called the Syracuse Brigadiers and a few others during the years in between.

Here is a picture of me taken by a professional photographer while performing with the Skyliners:

I have been using the eagle in one fashion or another my entire life. I like what the eagle stands for and I aspire to attain as many of the positive attributes of the eagle as possible. The below speaks loudly to and for me:

“Celebrate your success and stand strong when adversity hits, for when the storm clouds come in,
the Eagles soar while the small birds take cover.” -- Unknown

When i first signed into this forum, i had no earthly idea how it worked. ( and some things are still hard for me)

Dr winston:

When i went to College of Notre Dame in Md, we used to go to the
Johns Hopkins' Ratskellar down the street ( mid 1970's) and they had a band called
The Blue Meanies ( not sure of spelling) and they only played Beattles' music.
You can not imagine the hrs and hrs of joy and good times that band brought into my life, my precious college years....

BS are my first and last initial however my parents used my middle name (Stewart) from birth. So I've gone by Stew my entire adult life. A few close friends call me nothing but Beef....ala Beef Stew.

Yeah, I just wrote this out and realized this doesn't hold a candle to the depth of Dr. Winston nor touch the humor of Coach Ed.

I guess mine isn't too creative either. My name just says it like it is. I'm a dog-head through and through. They are a Huge part of my life and they are huge by most people's standards. I'm just used to looking dogs in the eyes (I'm short and they're tall).

The name of one of the boats I served on when I was in the Navy.

aside: In the Navy, surface craft (destroyers, aircraft carriers, whatever) are ships. Submarines are boats.

Onslowe,

Keeping up Appearances is one of my favourite programs! Still shown here in the UK, in fact my husband reckons I am a lot like Hyacinth! When my husband (Tony) gets out of line I shout for "Richard"!

My screen name "Luvly Jubly" is from another "Britcom" Only Fools and Horses. The great David Jason plays "Del Boy" and Luvly Jubly is one of his famous quotes. I shall bring the DVD collection with me to the TV so I can watch it when I want.
