Hi everyone!
My husband and I have just sold our home in the UK and we should be in The Villages within a few months and we are thrilled to bits! We do of course look forward to meeting all of you fabulous people and we cannot wait to start enjoying the brilliant lifestyle that is on offer.
We came over for a "lifestyle" visit last June and like all of you we fell in love with the place! Met some lovely people and really enjoyed all The Villages had to offer.
So soon we will be needing a place to rent whilst we look for the home of our dreams and so looking forward to it!
Cheerio for now!

Will you be looking for a colonial home? ;) I am sorry. Accept my very sincere welcome and hopes that you will find just the right place to make this lower paradise for you both.

P.S. Do you have any recent baby pictures of little George?

Yes, I am a fan of Brit "telly". Currently watching Foyle's War. And, of course, looking forward to season three of Downton Abby.

Hi TVMayor,
You are of course correct about the 6 months, however
in our case my wife is born American (North Carolina) now having dual citizenship which allows me to have a Green Card. So yes we will be indeed full time!
Look forward to meeting all of you one day (hopefully sooner than later!)

We will of course be full time and we cannot wait! We are having the contracts drawn up now, sadly the process is slightly slower here in the UK than in The Villages when closing, etc.
So keep your fingers crossed for us and hope all goes to plan!

We will of course be watching ALL of our British telly even whilst living in the villages. My wife is a big "Eastenders" (British soap) fan and I like Top Gear along with all sorts of other things. Our only worry is will we even have enough time to watch the telly?!

Morning Schaumburger,
We too hope we find the home of our dreams! Not sure how many times we have changed our mind on house models and plans. Prices have certainly jumped since we were there in June 2012 so the sooner we get there the better. I do read all of the advice on this site and has certainly been useful even so far away.

What part of England are you leaving?

Let me ask a question. Do you plan on living here full time? How long did you have to wait for your immigrant visa? I know how long the wait can be and it sounds like you got lucky or have been on the list for years.

Please make sure you have an immigrant visa from the Department of State and not a nonimmigrant visitors visa (B1/B2).

To all those that think I might be out of place, I've seen this before. People in the UK sell their house, give away the dog and come to the U.S. just to get turned around at the airport. They go back to the UK with a refused entry on their record, no house, no car and no dog.

Without an immigrant visa, you are limited to six months in a one year period. You MIGHT get a 6 month extension but you must return. I hope your doing this the correct way, and not listening to a friend or a friend of a friend.

Let me know if you have questions. I'd be glad to point you in the right direction.

They "roll up the sidewalks" here at 9:00PM. Of course daytime activities may require an early bedtime. Otherwise plenty of time for telly.

Hi Wingnut,

Yes we have gone through the proper channels to sort out the immigration part of our move, in fact we have been in the process already over a year, but you know what they say........ all good things come to those who wait!
We are really looking forward to our closing here and starting a new adventure in the villages.
Cheers for the good wishes!

Hiya,

Lucky you, it could be slightly longer for us to get there as things are much slower here in the UK than the villages when it comes to exchange, closing, etc. We met with some other Brits whilst there last year so it will be good to catch up with everyone once there.
Keep in touch!

Welcome Amy and Tony, It's always a pleasure to meet our cousins from the UK. We've owned since 2005 and TV still feels like a vacation that never ends. People ask us how we could possibly live so far from the ocean but I'm sure you'll agree there's more to life than an ocean view, and during hurricane season, you'll be thankful to have a 100 mile buffer from the coast. Yes, they roll up the streets in TV at 9 PM, but my recollection from the UK is the "last call" at the pubs is 11 PM, or has that changed? As you mentioned, the people you've met in TV are very friendly and you should feel right at home. Most everyone I know loves the British accent. Maybe it's subliminal from a prior life.

You may have to change you handle to "Paul Revere". Welcome to The Villages,

I too am originally from the UK, Banff Scotland to be precise although now living in Alberta, Canada. My wife is Canadian, but trained as a midwife in Preston, Lancashire.

We bought in Pinellas in February and are very much looking forward getting back for the winter months.

I believe there is a British Club in the Villages

Hi gryoung,
Thanks for the kind welcome! We are not fussed about the distance to the ocean and yes we will appreciate that "buffer" during hurricane season. Your right about the "last call", our local pub still calls at 11pm but some pubs do have the option of staying open till the wee hours if they choose. I am glad people like the "British" accent! Look forward to meeting you and all the other nice people!

Hi, You have been given lot's of advice,pre-welcome to "The Villages" etc.. But one of the most important bit's have been left off.

Here it is where can I get British Food ? You know the sort of things that you will have a craving for every now and then.
1) The Internet has many outlets where you can purchase items from.

2) The Marion Market on 441 North just 1 few miles from the Villages has a booth where you can get many items.

3) Publix, Winn Dixie, Sweetbay, all have a wide variety of items.

4) Not forgetting "Bangers" or sausages, yes Fresh Market has Irish Bangers which are pretty close to the real McCoy.

5) Pork Pies ??? Well yes they can be gotten but alas frozen and just not the same. They are made in up-state New York. So if you really love Pork Pies have one or two before you leave.

6) Our Family still resides in the UK, Ware Cambs..and Cheltenham,Glos. I retired from the USAF many years ago, after which I worked out of Staverton Airport as an Aerial Photographer. A lot of our photography was used by the Ordinance Survey Dept.

7) I am certain you will find your new home here just as comfortable as your home in the UK, and best of all your visitors will be delighted to visit you even more when they come. Cheers !!
