Has anyone converted one of their bedrooms in a craft/quilting room? I would be interested in the setup--type of furniture and cabinets. We are hoping to buy a 3 bedroom house when we come down in November. Any help appreciated.

Hi. We have a 3 bedroom Gardenia. When we built it we figured three bedrooms would be enough. One master, one office and a guest room. Since I started crafting last January, my guest room is now my craft room. Now I wish I had 4 bedrooms! Even though our guest room only gets used about 3-4 weeks a year I still wish I had an extra room. When guest come, I just put my stuff away in various drawers not beinge used in dressers. I guess it works ok. I donet want to lose my guest room.

A friend of mine recently designed their den to also being her craft room. I saw a photo of what I thought to be a great idea. What looks like a wall cabinet when closed..opened it has shelves for craft items and the lower half has a table that pulls down. Hope I explained this enough for you to get the idea.

My neighbor has dedicated her front bedroom to a craft room. She has a large table/counter in the center. Her walls and closet are used for cabinets, She has her sewing machines on the front wall. It seems to work for her.

I use the front bedroom to paint in also. I have a table set up under the window and a small chest of drawers next to it. It works for me. We have a third room in which my husband has his office (he works from home) and we have two single beds for guest. When the family comes we push his things to the side and we open the sofa sleeper in the front room. Everyone seems happy with this arrangement. :BigApplause:

My wife is a scrapbooker. We converted a bedroom into an office/craftroom by purchasing a sleeper sofa (so that it can serve as a bedroom), and a desk (so that it can serve as an office, and finally building shelving and a work surface in the closet (so that it can serve as a craft room, just close the closet doors and the craft room disappears). It worked out great! Steve Garafalo and Jamie Duncan of Steve's Onsite Services built the shelving and work surface in the closet and it's perfect.

I bought a cabinet from Ikea. It is Stuva model (if you want to look it up on the internet). I have 2 large drawers on the bottom (side by side), then 4 small drawers (2 and 2)above that with doors that close above that. Inside the doors are shelves. They also sell baskets which slide out. I have my yarn in them. Then I got a drawer divider for all my trims. I love being organized finally after 5 yrs here.
The room also has a desk, file cabinet, music keyboard and another storage unit for paper supplies. My sewing machine is at the window looking out at a horse farm. Yippee!
The cabinet is reasonably priced too. You can go to Ikea in Orlando and look at the selections they have. Wow! what a place.

I also use the guest room as my sewing room. Our 3rd bedroom doesn't have a good view for my sewing desk, and isn't as convenient to the guest bath, so we use that as an office/storage and to put our airbed in when we have guests in both rooms.

We have guests often enough that I don't want to ditch the queen bed in the guest room, but I have to admit I hate losing my sewing room the whole time they are here. I have thought about switching, but the 3rd bedroom is not convenient to the guest bath, and I love the front window for my sewing machine, plus it is a brighter room.

With some guests (our kids), I don't have time to sew, but with the others, it limits my early morning sewing time. This year, I'm going to move my sewing desk, machine and lamp, and a couple of projects, to the office when certain guests are anticipated so I don't lose out on my project time. Remains to be seen how that will work.

I'm getting to the point (after many guests) that I may not care how convenient their room is to the guest bath, but a queen bed, night stand and triple dresser might not fit in the 3rd bedroom.

I have seen closet set-ups, and it works for some, but I hate facing a wall when I am sewing so don't think I would like it. You are wise to think about this ahead of time.

I used my 3rd bedroom for crafting and the occasional guest. Now I am converting our sunroom into office space for me and I have a craft table in there. As soon as I can I am installing French doors in the opening with frosted glass. That way I can close it off and my mess doesn't show and there will still be light filtering in.:spoken:. I also will have a banquette built w/ a small table that can be used for lots of projects. I like to have a place to set up jigsaw puzzles and leave them out. Good luck with your project!

We have a Begonia, moved in in March. We had the den extended and put a closet in. Next Fri. I am having the closet fully shelved( all adjustable). We have put a wall bed and cabinets in on one wall and bookcases opposite. Am looking for a large but folding sewing machine cabinet. Coming from a 500 sq ft bonus room, I have way too much quilting stuff ....and never enough time. PM me if you want to see it after you move!
