This is a question with regard to replying to p.m.'s....
Lately, every time I type up my reply to a private message, when I click the "reply" at the bottom........I get a message saying "invalid user" or something like that.....
When I go to the list of people, I totally lose my typed message which I was going to send in reply..........retyping it all over again from memory is possible and I have done it..........but this is getting "old"......
Why cannot I reply on their email when it clearly states REPLY below...?
Just wondering? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Great question. It happens to me so much that I now highlight and copy every reply before I hit the reply button. That way when it fails I have the note to paste back in place and try again. There is some fundamental problem with the site software that handles the reply to PM feature.

Thanks for that suggestion. It's a good one. Often, I go into great detail when replying.........but then when I have to do it over, I kind of abbreviate the entire message........
I don't want various folks who p.m. me to think I don't want to respond, but it is crazy.....
It is a GREAT IDEA to highlight, copy and save our messages.....would save a lot of grief and energy. ha ha. When my return message just TOTALLY DISAPPEARS.....it is strange, to say the least. Gremlins?
I have a new computer, so wondering if perhaps it isn't quite compatible with TV's system?????

No, you're not alone!
I've had this happen on my regular email account. Usually (when I can remember to do it), I will copy long, detailed, thoughtful emails before sending, as I've lost many myself. It's really hard to get back those great, original, thoughts!

You have to click the "reply" button first. Then you type your reply above or below the original message and hit "send."

It is best not to reply from the email notification. Log in to TOTV. You will then be notified you have a PM

I probably mis spoke. I no longer get email notifications from the administration or TOTV. I used to. That's another issue.
I should have said that I get a message at TOTV that I have a private message. I go to that. Guess it's not correct to say it's an email as it's not.
But when I type in the response and then hit "reply".... it says "invalid user."
Meaning the person to whom I am responding is an "invalid user". So, when I try to find their real "address", then I lose my total typed reply message.
It happens all the time.....I believe someone above might have the solution.
Hit reply first? Then type in a response? I thought the reply was similar to "send".
Thanks to all who have posted and tried to help me. I do appreciate it.

We have tried to replicate the problems reported by the OP, but, have not been able to get the same error message about invalid user.
One way to lose your text is to bring up a PM, enter your text in the "Quick Reply" area but then hit the "Reply" button above that window instead of the "Submit Message" button below the quick reply text box.
The cleanest way to reply to a PM is to hit the Green REPLY button just below the incoming PM text.
As far as not receiving an email notification of a new PM, that is controlled by a setting on "Edit Options" page on the Settings and Options section in the left menu bar. Here are a couple of the PM-related settings:
The forum can send a message to your email address to inform you when someone sends you a private message.
Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages
If you are browsing the forums when you receive a new private message, the system can pop-up a notification box informing you of the new message.
Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up
If this should happen again, please capture the sequence of steps and we will try to duplicate it.

Your second paragraph is what I've been doing. I understand now.
