Has anyone had a popcorn ceiling removed and a hand troweled ceiling put in its place? Who did the work and roughly what did it cost? I hate popcorn but we have been looking at pre-owned homes and TV was using it up until 2005 or 2006. That eliminates a lot of houses and some wonderful areas. If we could have it removed at a modest cost we would then be able to consider more homes.

Thanks for your help.

New here myself, but this is something I have investigated. Blue Sky Textures (http://popcornremoval-orlando.com/) is highly recommended by someone I know personally who used them.

Two years ago we remodeled our 19 year old kitchen. Removal of the popcorn in the kitchen was included in the price. When ask about the rest of the house (living/dining/Fl room), they charged me $600 which I thought was reasonable. Only difference from what you ask is they put on a spray orange peel texture which is fine with us. We have a 1900 sq ft designer and the bedrooms have not been done yet. If you figure they equal about 500 sq ft (with master bath) they area done was about 1400. Hope this helps and good luck.

ps - its a very messy job

actually my villa built in 2007 has them. I'm not crazy about them but don't bother me....

I had my ceilings scraped and textured last year. I had Scott at Performance Drywall do the work. (352-266-3350 or 352-266-1897) Great Job and a Great guy. Cleaned up and did it in a timely manner. I have a Lantana and it cost me $2,300.------Well worth the money.

Rick Basile (352) 274-2396 can remove the popcorn for you. He does great work at very reasonable prices. He can apply an orange peel or knockdown finish. I don't know about a hand troweled ceiling. A quick phone call can answer that question.

We just used Rick Basile within the last month to have the popcorn removed in our resale home & had knockdown applied. He told me he will only do it if the house is empty. Did a great job, and we love our new ceilings.

Afterthought.....Rick said that popcorn cannot be removed if the ceiling has been painted....acts as a sealant.
