On several occasions the subject of cars NOT stopping at stop signs in the Villages has come up here on TOTV. So, we took our cameras to one intersection for 20 minutes. The intersection at Calumet and Buena Vista is controlled by a stop sign. What you see here was filmed in 20 minutes. Click twice on the start button below the picture to start the 60 second video.

You'll notice very few turn signals as well.

Perhaps CDD4 should take a page from Apopka's book and install red-light-runner cameras. At $125 or more per ticket, what income might have beenearned on your brief show!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my God!!!! I just can't believe that people living in the Villages would so blatantly disobey a traffic law. After all I am sure that there was none of this criminal activity in the previous locations from whence they came. TV is a great cross section of the entire country and more. Of course traffic laws and others are disregarded there and why should we think just because we are in TV that would change. Some may think that "back home" there was very little of this illegal goings-on but there really was. The bottom line: Be careful, Be aware of where you are at and what you are doing(driving) and Be considerate of the other person even if they are being a jerk by running a stop sign. For those of us that have a problem walking and chewing gum at the same time we should also stay off the phone while driving. Multi-tasking can be tough. ???

These aren't even blatant California stops!!!! Amazing. Any wonder we have so many traffic accidents here. People just worry about themselves and no one else. Now, tell me, where are they going in such a hurry??????? :edit:

We visited TV during the week of Fourth Of July and we noticed quite a few drivers rolling through the stop signs. I thought that perhaps I was being to critical, but I am glad that you agree. We live in Michigan but have visited TV several times in the past year and plan to move as soon as we sell our house. On our first visit we noticed police ticketing drivers on Buena Vista. :agree:

Would someone kindly call the Villages office of the Marion County Sheriff's department and ask them to look at this video? I think it is the Marion County Sheriff's department Southern sub station. Please NO NOT call 911.

Can someone clarify something for me? Each time people on this board comment about bad drivers....blame is always on Villages residents.
Aren't many of the roads within The Villages public thoroughfares? Is the road in the video a public thoroughfare?
While I'm sure there are a number of Villages residents who are guilty of being poor drivers, I would think that the majority of folks who are in such a rush are non-residents. At least, that's what I'd like to think. Since the majority of the people living in TV are retired, why would they be in such a rush?

Good question. The street in the video is the exit from Calumet to Buena Vista. 95% of the vehicles you see are Village residents.

Since posting this video, I have be observing other intersections with stop signs. It seems that nobody, that is nobody stops at stop signs. Yesterday, I stopped at a stop sign and the guy behind me blew his horn and waved for me to keep moving. :o

Several comments on this...
1) Don't you know that the cars today do not come with turn signals installed as standard equipment, it's optional... ;D
2) From 'inside' the car, it's darn difficult to know when the wheels on the 'outside' of the car stop rotating...especially when the 'driver' is preoccupied listening to the 'hot hits of the 50's and 60's..... :dontknow: ;D

:cop: Maybe it is time for a bumper sticker w/large letters telling what to do at a stop sign. Or maybe it is time for a small TV police dept. to enforce some of the much needed rules. :dontknow:
:agree:
too bad at our "educated age" we haven't learned to obey the laws of the land but I bet if it hurt in the pocketbook a bit more, we'd "remember" the rules a little better!
It's those darn Yankees ! They come down here to the sunny south and think they don't have to obey any rules. They talk fast and drive fast. They talk funny too !

 Just returned from visit to Bravo Pizzeria. If you were surprised at the flagrant disregard of the law shown in the video, just grab a window table at Bravo's and watch the show at the intersection in front of Sweetbay's. They have installed 4 way flashing red lights that might as well be invisible. I saw only about 10 % of vehicles (autos and golf carts) come to a full stop before preceeding as the law requires. Approximately 7 out of 10 slowed down and the rest just blew through the intersection without even slowing down.
I suspect that if the Sumter County Sheriff observes this volume of lawbreakers at this intersection, he may have to hire additional Deputies just to write citations at this location. From a cash flow perspective, the money from fines could create a budget surplus for Sumter County. Somebody is really gonna get hurt or worse, if this lawbreaking doesn't stop real soon. :cop: :cop: :cop: :cop:

You let them drive at age 10. In Orlando they start stealing cars at age 7, as soon as their feet can reach the pedals. ;D

Oh, please...VNN would sanitize it...they might even edit the tape so everyone including Massey Guy stopped to smell the flowers before proceeding into that glorious intersection on the way to that special Heaven called "The Villages"...Florida's friendliest hometown!!
