This Wednesday is September 11th - the anniversary of one of the United States' most painful events.

Thus far, I have seen no mention of any moments of silence or services or anything. Even in Church this morning, no mention was made of this horrific day. I am a bit amazed that this day seems to mean nothing.

Its kinda sad that we can't take a moment to think of people that lost their lives for no good reason other than that they went to work on a beautiful early autumn day with crystal clear skies that helped the bad guys see their targets better.

Perhaps I just have not heard of any tributes of respect?

I know that none of us have forgotten.

St. Timothy has daily Mass and in the past years there were many more than the usual amount there on the anniversary of nine eleven.

I am not sure just what would be a fitting thing to do as Villagers.

There are so many of us and not too many places to hold huge crowds.

But none of us have forgotten.

I think it's not so much a matter of having a location for a huge crowd - certainly not everyone would show up. I just find it appalling that so far I have heard of no tributes.

Those who forget are doomed to repeat.

Yes in NY there will be a tribute that day. However, shouldn't there be some show of respect in Florida or wherever there are Americans or does the significance of America being attacked not matter?

Used to be that Church on the Square would have people say the name of one of the deceased until all names had been called out. Since it is closed, not sure what will be done to remember but I sincerely doubt it will be forgotten.

9/11 is considered Patriots Day. And although not a federal holiday, the President requests that the American flag be flown at half-staff at individual American homes, at the White House, and on all U.S. government buildings and establishments, home and abroad. The President also asks Americans to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 A.M. (Eastern Daylight Time), the time the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He also exhorts Americans to use the Corporation for National and Community Service to find and volunteer for service opportunities.

Most public schools pay tribute on this day with special programs. My school has a very large program planned. Check with the local area schools. They may have something planned.

Go and take a look at The Villages Emergency Response Center across from the Sanibel gate, just south of 466A on Morse. There are about 1,000 flags in the ground in a display called The Banner of Flags commemorating the American lives lost on 9/11. It's awesome and moving.

Our social club will be putting flags at every house in our neighborhood.....130 homes. We put out flags for other occasions and 9/11 is never forgotten. Flags go out 9/10. If you're in Caroline, not to far from the gate, take a look.

I just took a ride up to Morse and saw the field of flags. Wow very impressive and very touching. I'll quit kvetching now.
