I am surprised, if that is true. Every time I have been there, it has been packed. Anybody know the story?

Don't know the story and I live just off 466. However, I won't be unhappy to see it go. Really not much of a BBQ place. I prefer Sonny's.

We've never been to Oakwood on 27\441 South of TV but it always seems crowded. Has anyone been there and is it considered good BBQ? Sonny's was OK but Florida BBQ may be unique and outside our experience. The Food Channel has a number of shows exploring the BBQ experience in different parts of the Country.

Wouldn't surprise me if they close. Bono's barbecue isn't all that good, nothing like that we got in KY. And, their pit is inside and when you leave your clothes smell like smoke.
::) That's what I heard......I've never seen it crowded and don't like it either.
Anyone try Dickey's in Wildwood??

...even after asking a number of friends and neighbors, no one seems to have ever been there. On the other hand, Oakwood Barbeque gets rave reviews from almost anyone you ask. We did visit Oakwood and would join the group of fans of their BBQ. And our waiter was absolutely first-rate. Enough to justify a maximum gratuity.

On the other hand, a group of us went to Oakwood a couple of months ago. The bbq was excellent, the service so bad - including a "manager" who insulted almost everyone in the group for even thinking about complaining! Absolutely not a dime left as gratuity!
And no plans to return any time soon.

Oakwood SmokeHouse & Grill has the best B-B-Q around. If you haven't tried please do, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Better than Sonny's? You bet!!!

The last two times I was in Bono's I was disappointed. Seemed to lose its quality. If you want good ribs that is in the same neighborhood, try Bob Evans' Bob-b-que ribs. Delicious. We love Oakwood too but sometimes too far. I heard they won't come to The Villages because of the fee they have to pay The Villages. Anyone know anything about that? Also Wiskey Creek ribs are good too. Some much good food and so little time to eat all of it :). Good thing I line dance to wear it all off.

I'm surprised that they lasted as long as they did. Their BBQ is poor and I've never seen the place packed. I tired their BBQ at two of their other locations and it wasn't any better.

Went to Oakwood last fall - great ribs - but one of our party had steak and it was awful - when we complained the manager said 'what do you expect!' we do BBQ ribs - we're not known for our steaks ??

Bono's restaurant is listed for sale on loopnet - a commercial real estate site. So I guess they have closed and are for sale.

OakWood Smokehouse & Grill gets my vote hands down! It was voted the #1 favorite restaurant on TV survey with Too Jay's as the #1 favorite restaurant located in TV. We (our friends and spouses) make it a point to go to OakWood at least once a month if not more. Currently if you go on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, after 3:00 pm, you can order a full rack of baby back ribs plus 2 sides for only $10.95. They are soooooo goooood!
As for Bono's I did notice today when we passed by there were only a couple of vehicles in their lot parking lot area. Only ate there once and did not care for their ribs.

So I am waiting for the answer, are they closed, can anyone in the vicinity, say Belvedere or Tall Trees next time they go to Publix swing by and see if the front door is open?
Why not call Bonos and ask them??

I was in the Whiskey Creek Steakhouse last week and had some ribs that were really good. And from what I have been told, they have good other barbecue as well.

Thanks for the telephone number for Bono's. I did just call and the number is not in service at this time. I'm over that way quite often but I'll have to try and remember to stop there. I'm getting curious.

If the telephone isn't working they're probably closed, let us know what you find out Happy Villager.

Took your suggestion and took a cart ride in the rain. Bono's is closed and the building is up for sale!

Bono's seems to be a popular topic, was is a special place?
No, eating in restaurants is what is special to many people. Bono's was just another place and apparently not to special.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out Happy.
Went there once and got ripped off. Gave them the benefit of doubt & went back 2nd time, same thing. Chicken scraps and a "pill cup" of baked beans for a side. I asked the manager about the "food rationing" and he said everything is measured. I never went back. Good riddance! :o
