I can't believe I finally made it to the Villages!

After so many months talking about it and imagining what it was like, to actually see the place is sort of surreal. I have to say, the utter size of this community is overwhelming and the heat is absolutely horrible. How can you stand it? Please tell me it get's better soon. Otherwise, I won't be venturing out from the air-conditioning any time soon.

Which is just as well, I suppose, as I tried a short trip on the golf cart and found it a lot harder than it looks. Before I go further than the end of my driveway I'm going to need lessons. - If not, there won't be a bush, tree or God forbid a hapless pedestrian, who hasn't been the victim of my less than stellar driving skills.

I want to thank Kitty for setting up a lovely luncheon for my first day here. It was wonderful to finally meet some of the friends I've made on this site. Along with Kitty, Chax3, Carol and Careen joined us at the Havana. It's truly amazing how friendly everyone is, especially those who I've gotten to know on TOTV over these past months. I'm anxious to finally meet them all in person.

I'm also looking forward to experiencing all the Villages has to offer.

Katie

Welcome! You'll get the hang of the golf cart in no time at all. It only seems daunting at first.

Welcome! I hope The Villages lives up to your expectations and more! You will find your way around and get used to the golf cart in no time at all. Enjoy everything The Villages has to offer.

I am looking forward to getting down there at the end of October.

Hi Katie, I was thinking about you over the weekend, wondering when you would be arriving. So happy you have made it safe and sound. You will be able to handle the golf cart in no time, if I can do it you certainly can. At least you won't have to deal with snow and ice like you have been handling in NH. What village do you live in? When you get settled let me know and hopefully we can meet up. Welcome to TV and warmer sunnier days. Ellen

Katie, I've got a gas cart, almost no traffic area...your introduction would have unnerved anybody. LMK if you want to approach it again without having an obstacle course right off. I was nervous at first too.

Ah Hart's what a great place. It is so beautiful in N.E. during the end of September, I am jealous. Have a wonderful time. :)

Talk about ' a small world'. Thanks for the offer, but, I mailed myself what I couldn't fit in my suitcase. I will certainly miss the best time of year in Meredith. When I left, the foliage hadn't even started. Here's a bit of trivia, that was in the Trivial Pursuit game. Where, in the world, can the most spectacular foliage be found in the fall? New Hampshire was #2 - And if that wasn't surprising enough - The most spectacular foliage can be found in Japan. Who'd have thunk it!

Enjoy your turkey dinner at Harts. It's the best, although I've never understood what people find appealing in their signature pickled carrots on a cracker, that they serve before dinner. I think it tastes yucky.

Welcome to The Villages and no, the temps in Florida don't get better until mid to late October at the earliest. You don't get used to it - you just survive it waiting for better weather.

Welcome to The Villages and just watch 'the other guy' when driving around in your golf cart. Being from VT, the heat sure beats slippin' and slidin' in winter. They say that fall is really beautiful and the nice weather is just around the corner. Cool and in the 40's in the morning now and we have Villager friends up here that are looking to get back. Enjoy.

It may take you a while to adjust to the high humidity of the long hot central Florida summers. I do not know what you were accustomed to where you resided prior to moving to The Villages but I spent the month of October in The Villages coming from coastal Southern California and it was quite difficult for me - not the temperature, but the humidity. By the end of the month I did find myself getting used to it, though.

Katie -- Hope you are settling well into The Villages. You should have seen me driving a golf cart for the first time 2 years ago when I rented in The Village of Chatham. LOL. My first landlord was actually nice enough to have one of his friends give me an hour long golf cart driving lesson which really helped. And I would rather deal with a Florida summer than a Chicago winter any day.
