Will be closing on Aug 10th. Does anyone have a lawn service that does it all, cut lawn, blow, trim and handle irrigations and fertilizer/pest issues? Please provide name/phone numbers and thanks in advance, Linda

I would check with neighbors on either side and try to use same, should help with making sure it gets done if you're a snow bird and neighbor isn't.

There are many good and honest lawn service providers and there are a bunch of jerks out there. Check with your new neighbors and see if they are satisfied. Once you've got an idea about who you would use contact the Seniors vs Crime at the Sumter or Marion sheriffs substation in TV. They will let you know if they have had any complaints filed on them. DO NOT pay in advance. Good Luck

We have had Cripple Creek Lawn Service for almost two years now and they are excellent. Our lawn fertilizing and pest control is Massey..and they are very good.

We got a quote from Massey for ~$840/Yr = Aeration 1/yr; 7 treatments for yard (fert./fungiicide/trees/shrubs, ants, wasps, etc.) = unlimited callbacks

One bug treatment indice, then 1/Qtr outside; Spray outside every other Qtr; "sticky stuff" by garage door to keep out "crawlies."

Does this sound reasonable (similar to what you are paying, with similar services?) (I realize lot size makes a diff & we do have a large lot)

As always, thanks in advance for any advice, observations etc. ...

Ken....seems a little high; I hired Massey last year....my lot is just under 1/4 acre; every other months for weed and feed; 1 a quarter for bug treatments (outside); 1 aeration a year; no inside treatment for bugs unless they are found inside. Same on-call service. I do "pay as you go" ... $57 for weed and feed and aeration; $62 for pest control treatments. Total for the year works out to ...about $650/year. I'd get another estimate from Bates or Once-a-year pest control, compare, and make them compete. I don't recall if you are a new house or resale, but, does this also include annual termite protection/insurance? That would be about $100/year when bundled with other services.

We're using Triple J right now. They started off ok but things really went down hill. At this time, we recommend not using them. The jury is still out though and we'll keep y'all posted.

Forget Mike's Maintenance. I actually saw the guy with the weed eater machine walk into my back yard and point the tool into the air, rev the motor a few times, and walk back out. What a ripoff!

All About Bugs is $615 for inside service, termite service and 6 lawn applications of fertilizer, bug and weed control. I have had them for 6 years and are very happy with them.

While we are talking lawn service, I pay $40 per month, cut, whack, trim and blow, how does this compare to others out there?

I pay $50 for the same services on a lot of just under 10,000 sq ft. Lot size does factor in. Pay it all year round. So far, happy with my crew.

just got and estimate on my new Ranch house of $45/mt plus $5 to put some weed control in the flower / shrub beds. What bothered me a bit was that during the winter (or once the grass goes dormant after the first frost in Jan Feb March) they indicated they only need to cut once a month but its still $45/mt. They said their "by cut rate" is $15 but when I asked if I could change to the by cut rate in the winter they said they only do monthly cuts and they would ask me to not drop them till March since they were cutting me in Aug, Sept,Oct Nov Dec for a cut rate of $45. Sure does seem like $45 a cut in Jan Feb March is more than a bit steep for such a small lawn and I got a feeling I don't get any real bargain with the 45/mt rate that would cost me 60 if they did it by the cut (4x15=60) if I have to pay the same when they cut it once.

Can someone shed some light on if this is the norm or a Cutter that will let you switch to "By the Cut" once the grass goes dormant or am I missing something here!

I pay the same all year even though they go to one sometimes two cuts in the winter depending on the weather, I figure for $40/month it's cheap enuf.

Our Snowbird friends that are here in KY just showed us pics they'd received from VHA about the weeds in their Sable Chase lanscape. They made some calls and had the weeds removed. Their grass had always been cut but ya gotta hire someone for weeds. There's a job opening. Any takers see Donna.

I had a great lawn guy who mowed, trimmed and weeded and everything. All of a sudden he dissappeared never to be heard from again. I paid at the end of the month so it did not cost me anything.

However, I have been through three lawn services since then that cite mowing and trimming and weeding. But when you try to get them to do it, they want extra and then don't do a good job. I now have a guy that mows. I tried the weeding and trimming but the old back cannot take that bending and would really like to find some one that would do that at a reasonable price.

I think that some entrepreneur is missing out on a great service area.

If anyone finds one (or if I do), please post it.

Weeding and trimming on a two-week or monthly interval during the spring, summer, and fall is all I want!! Price to be determined.

Our lawn is over grown and I tried to contact our service..I am not getting a response from him..

I hope he is still in service or this will be number 2 on the list..Our first guy was paid in advance and ended up in jail..Needless to say he took the money for no services... :dontknow:

Donna,

Give K & L Lawn Service a call at 352/326-o750 or cell 352/303-4576. The owner,Waylon Bibler, runs the mower on every job and he is local. Lives in Fruitland Park. We have a dozen neighbors here in Glenbrook that have used him for 4 + years. He only does mowing & edging. Pay $45 monthly and he mows when it needs it. Usually once a week and every two weeks in winter. Good guy!

We have used Once a Year for lawn weeds, bugs & fertilizer for the past two years. They service the yard monthly and if I see weeds or bugs, I call and they come next day. $295 a year.

I finally got a new dependable lawnmowing service - $45/month - weekly from Apr-Oct and every other week in the non-growing months (Nov-Mar).

I have been looking for a shrub trim and weed person. One is $75 a month, One is $50 a month, and one will mow, trim and weed for $85 a month or mow and trim for $70 a month.

My current lawn person is going to throw the trimming and weeding in for a $15-20 charge when he does it. I am giving that a try just to see the cost. Now that the growing season is almost over, I think one or shrub trims is all I will need.

Lawn service, now there's a subject!!! Our first year we were not here and got ripped off big time and reported the guy to the States Attorneys Office He ended up in jail eventually but we lost our money. We have used different pest control companies and lawn and shrub care almost every year since we moved here 5 years ago. The last 2 were the worst they were Once A Year and lastly Bates. Their personal didn't seem to know what they were doing. Thanks to 2 years of bad service our lawn is the worst its ever been. We are now using Cottoms. They have been in the area over 28 years and the owner who came out to look at my lawn really new his stuff. We'll see how it goes as they are expensive but came highly recommended by people that have used them for over 6 years. It's costing us a little over $900 a year to hopefully get our lawn back in shape so we'll see if we get what we're paying for. My husband did his own mowing and trimming etc. but we now hired a svc. we have a huge corner lot and pay $60 a month and so far they do a great job. Most of our neighbors use them also. Anyway that's my 2cents worth. Good Luck!

For any lawn irrigation systems I would highly recommend Jim Baumgartner. I found his listing in the Village Sun classified. He is a Village resident. He will diagnose and tune your system and provide as much information about doing it yourself as you are so inclined to enquire and learn. He does additional work for the Villages and so is a trusted resource.

A year ago I couldn't find a sprinkler listing that would return my calls for help. The only one that did took 4 visits to get it right and by that time most of the lawn had burned and died.

>:( Unfortunately, I also tried the others for a year each. First "Once a Year" rather so so and the lawn suffered a bit over the 3 years of good but a bit expensive service from Massey. Then I tried "Bates", the lawn not only suffered much worse than "Once a Year", when I complained, I got an attitude call back from Bob Bates himself.

Fortunately they sent out someone else a few days later to pleasantly explain that the dead and what looked like chewed out roots was not from bugs, but that it was my fault, the droughts fault and everyone was having the same problem.

I am now doing my own lawn and much happier with the results. When I called Bates and told them not to send me any bills, as I would not be renewing, they asked why. I said start with the poor service, follow it up with Bob's attitude, add in my damaged lawn and "Have a nice day".

Native Cuts Property Management pressure cleaned my driveway and walkways. Did an excellent job. They also take pride in their complete lawn service.
They are a new company and aim to please their customers. I'd use them again.

We have had Scotts Lawn Service for 4 years (352-347-2822). They leave a bill at your door (unless you pay yearly to get a 5% discount). The bill includes a report on the condition of your lawn. ALL of our neighbors have had lawn problems (St. Augustine grass) and their lawns are being treated by at least 3 different lawn services. Our lawn has NEVER had a problem and is in the best shape in the neighborhood. Scotts took care of the lawn for 3 years before we were able to move to TV, so they were doing a good job even without our being here to monitor them.

Also, we use Dean's Pest control (see ad). They use beagle dogs to sniff for termites inside your house before they determine to treat the property. There was a feature article about them in a pet magazine. We've never had bugs in the house or garage, except for the Love Bugs which are uncontrollable no matter where you are.

We use McKinney Landscape Service..352-259-0905....A man in his late 20's early 30s, owns his own business. He mows trims and blows for $55 a month (weekly in season every 2 weeks like now). We have a LARGE yard but he will do what you want. WE have used him since 9/06 with NO problems. He appears reliable...shows up on time.....and I am not there to supervise him. He sends me bills in the mail and I send him a check. I am satisfied with the work and check on it when I get down to FLorida...and the neighbors keep an eye out also.

With everyone that's giving their 2 cents worth - we ought to have a milllion dollar idea.

Here's my 2 cents. . . . I have Middleton for pests and fertilizer/weed control (includes bushes.
Just paid $790 for the year of bush & lawn care(fert&bush spraying)
They do the termite control for $90
and once a year bug treatment for $260. (includes a booster @ 6 mo).

Lawn cut and trim from A&C Exteriors for $50/mo no mater how often they have to cut and yes, lot size matters. I have a pie shape at end of culdesac (140 deep x 60 in front by 90 in back) but a corner would be more.

All services performing well
