Is it all as advertized?
Really plug and play?
Is there a service one has to subscribe to in order to access programming?
Etc?

Yes, bought one the day I read about it. Very easy to setup and install. You install and use Google Chrome to surf to sites where you can stream video. We use Amazon Prime and Netflix. Kick if off on the PC and share it to the TV. It's perfect for an HD TV that is not a smart TV or internet enabled. How can you go wrong for $35! BTW, I also stream MLB Network and HBO GO.

Bought one, works as advertised. I only use it for Netflix now, waiting for more apps to be added by google.

You get three months of free Neflix when you buy one so it is really only $11. I never had Netflix before but I like it and will keep it. Been watching Breaking Bad.

Tell me more. You connect this to your PC? How does it get the broadcast content to televisions in your home? I'm intrigued.

The device itself, connects to an HDMI port on you TV (Cable included) and then connects to your home wireless system. Install Chromecast on your PC as an add in and it will be available in your chrome browser. So basically, anything you can stream to your chrome browser can be linked to your TV!

I have Chromecast. Wish it were more capable. At first all I thought I could do was cast NetFlix (which is no longer offering the free 3 months with a Chromecast purchase) and YouTube. But then I found you can add a "Cast" extension to your Google Chrome Browser. I shows up like a little blue rectangle at the top of your Chrome browser. What this does is allow you to cast a tab. For example, if you have Facebook open in one tab and select that tab to cast... poof, you see what is displayed on your computer screen on the tv screen.

Great, I'm thinking. I have a PRIME membership at Amazon and use it to watch a number of free movies on PRIME. I'll just open a tab to watch a PRIME movie on my google Chrome browser and cast the movie to my TV. Gotcha... doesn't work. Because the Chromecast does not support media delivered via "silverlight" which is Amazon uses to deliver PRIME movies. Don't know if I can find a way around that or not.

Learning more each time I try and use it though.
