We are moving to a new home in Charlotte. We have been looking at furniture. Here's my question. We have the white cabinets which I really like. The furniture we are looking at is more of a cottage yellow with wood table tops. At first I was thinking white with the wood tops but then thought add variety. Now I'm just not sure. If I did this right there will be a photo attached. What are your thoughts?

Here's a photo of the fabric for our chair and sofa if that helps get an idea.
Thanks in advance for your opinions!

You have chosen tropical and that is fun to do. Here is a photo of our first house here with a mingling of white and other woods. I would call it beachy/cottagy. I like what you have chosen.

I like white cabinets a lot, and the furniture color/style choice you show looks great.

Too often, people make everything match the kitchen cabinetry exactly and it can look too sterile and uninviting if all white. The furniture you show looks friendly and inviting.

At neighborhood parties etc. people murmur to each other if the place looks all white and sterile and antiseptic, saying "..are we allowed to touch anything??".

At our age, we should buy for comfort first then style if it fits the comfort line.

Gracie, was your first house a "Begonia/Sunflower"? Looks very similar to the LR, DR, entry of that floor plan. Love what you did with it!

I like the Mix. The blonde furniture is warm looking. I have white cabinets too but I chose all white furniture with tropical colors. I think most anything goes with white. Enjoy shopping for just the right pieces.

We have just a CYV with white cabinets. For color, we put wood floors 5" planks in the kitchen, DR and foyers. The dinette and bar stools are brown metal with the color coming from the fabric. The LR is three pieces all beige leather. The MBR we have dark wood in the Ernest Hemingway style and the guest BR is white tropical style furniture. We have tan carpeting in the BR's and LR. The walls are painted a light seabreeze blue, that was done by Investment Painters. The backsplash is white subway tile with a blue line halfway down. The area rug came from Overstock.com, the chandelier came from Home Depot.

This is beautiful and practical/comfortable. Hardwood or wood laminate flooring in the kitchen is great!

Thanks for all your replies! I greatly appreciate it.

As I'm looking at the photos of the wood tables it doesn't really show the true color. It's more of a weathered yellow color. Not a blond wood as it appears. I have the chair ordered in the floral pattern and sofa in blue. Guess I need to put some thought in the tables. Such decisions If only all life's decisions could be so hard. :)

Whit53,
First congratulations on your new home and Welcome! I am sure what ever you choose will be lovely. The fabric for couch and chair look beautiful. As far as the wood things, I personally like to mix it up a bit. They (such as H G TV) mix up the woods all the time. What you have in your attached picture is very pretty and in my humble opinion does not have to match the cabinets. Btw, love the white cabinets. When we built, we almost went white but went the extreme opposite as I had always wanted cherry cabinets and now I have them. I do just love them. However, with the sun shines, (which is often) they do show dust and I am out with my dust rag. So excited for you. Congratulations!

If we had a decorating forum we could all exchange ideas, and questions, and pictures and enjoy each others accomplishments.

Almost every home here in TV, no matter the size has the same layout with an open kitchen, but every home I have entered is different and unique and reflects the people who live there.

I love HGTV and I love all styles of decorating. Please let's keep this thread going and share pictures. I can't be the only one who enjoys seeing what people have done to their homes here. I can't be the only one who likes to share ideas.

Our first home here in TV in Hadley was furnished with leftovers from our house in Cincinnati and finds from Bargains and Treasures, and stuff from Ikea and since we lived close to the Frontgate outlet and national headquarters in Cincy, we got a lot of bargains there. I also painted the big pictures on the walls. I had always drawn but never painted.

Our second home here, we brought our old furniture with us.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Your turn.

Linda and Rich, thanks for your kind words and warm welcome. I must say I love cherry cabinets. That's what I have now. they are a bit ir work to stay in tip top shape. I have to say I'm surprising myself with the lighter choices. I tend to prefer the darker tones of wood. New home, new choices...same old me. Lol

Gracie, I do hope people continue to post photos and their decorating choices. Just like going thru a model home right on the IPad. :)

Thanks everyone!

I did decide to order that table and chairs as well as matching living room tables. That tone matches the leafy part in the fabric. Since its such an open floor plan I think it will all go well. At least I hope. For now we have that standard carpeting, when the time comes and we replace that with wood flooring I think it just might work.

Babbetts(so) said it will take about 3 weeks to arrive. Perfect timing for closing.

Ok, now...to paint the walls or not to paint is the question. So many decisions!:2excited::shrug:

I have really enjoyed reading this thread. If/when I ever move to TV, I will need serious help with decorating. My home in Chicago area looks like it was furnished from a 1980's garage sale; and it would not be worth moving most my Illinois furniture to FL. My youngest sister (A/K/A the Martha Stewart of Burlington, KY) makes fun of my house when she visits me :(. I have sent a PM to the Admin asking if a decorating forum could be set up within TOTV.

John W, your place is beautiful, it does belong in a magazine!

Gracie, I have seen several pictures of your homes, Helene and Sweetie. It is just lovely and hope to meet you all sometime. I would love for us to all share pictures. I am on my IPad right now and will have to get on my laptop to add some.

Whit53, I am sure you will be happy with all your choices, they look perfect.

We have had our home for just a year now and it is still a work in progress. We are Snowflakes hopefully to be Frogs soon. Between landscaping, gutters, solar tubes, sliding screen door, etc, etc, etc; we now have created a priority list. The next thing is crown molding in October which is not high on my husband's priority list. However, purchasing these comfy golf cart seats were not a high priority on my list, but I surprised him with them anyway since he works so hard and he is my "sweetie" of 33 years next month! I can tell you I thought having the garage floor epoxied was a waste of my decorating money, but is sure cuts down on the cement dust. We also had the whole interior painted a soft off white color before the crown molding is to be installed in October. Accent walls to come later. Builders paint isn't at all washable. Eventually we are looking at wood floors for the living and dining room but knew when we built we could do some of those types of things later. I love our home, it isn't perfect, but it is ours and we enjoy it every chance we get (about 5 times a year).

Shaumburger, we had a ranch in TV before we built this house. We just brought the furniture from there. Many sources, Southern Lifestyles, Bargins and Treasures and garage sales. We will be bringing our dining room from home along with just a few other special pieces. I Love to decorate and makes floral pieces. When you get here, let us know, would love to help.

Best Wishes to all...

I so enjoyed reading this post. It isn't showing off or anything to share what to me is high adventure trying to make four walls a comfortable and lovely place. I try to get the best price on things and I too envy some beautiful homes that have not only crown molding but molding and lighting in the offset ceiling and ceiling color that contrasts with the molding. I have seen wainscoting done by the molding guys that is drop dead gorgeous but I will not sell one of our grandkids to get it. I will wait and someday it will happen.

I hope people know I am joking.

I do so want to meet you Lpierlo!!!!

I by no means, hope anyone thought I was bragging. Just trying to say after a new house build there are still many things to do and it takes time to be able to afford them. We have done almost everything we could ourselves, my husband did the landscaping himself. He is very handy but finish work is not his forte. I am attaching just a picture of our home we worked very hard to have. We don't have any grandchildren yet, but I hope to someday. I wouldn't trade them for anything either.

Schaumburger, when you come down in January if you get time look me up...post here, pm me, maybe we can get together. You are always welcome in my home, you're my neighbor! I know our home will be a work in progress but if you don't mind a box or 2 and a bit of a mess please come on by.

We should be there a week in Oct, then another week in Nov and hopefully January, February and part of March.

Hi John,

Where did you buy those bar stools I love them ! If the fabric off white or yellow can't tell from the picture.

The bar stools and dinette came from Southern Lifestyles in 2011. They are a goldish tan color, more in the tan color. This photo might show the color better. The frame is brown metal, the only negative is they are very heavy, before we had the wood floors installed they were a real pain to lift when we had carpeting but now they slide easily on the wood.

Thank you for the compliments everyone. The pillows are acutally more of a burnt orange, not pink. You would think after working 32 years for Kodak I would have a better camera. Perhaps that is one reason they went bankrupt. That acutally occurred literaly days after we placed on deposit on this lot but decided to continue to build anyway, and so glad we did. Hope to be frogs sometime next year. Best wishes to all.

We are country folk from PA. When/if we ever get the rest of our furniture down to TV from PA we will have a "country" decorated home in TV. Our home in PA is on the market and I just can't part with some of the dcor that we love and have so much invested in. You don't see many "country" decorated homes in FL, but we will have one!
