I am trying to find out more information about a relative of mine who was born in Germany in 1825, emigrated to Kentucky and eventually settled in or near Cincinnati. During the Civil War, he served with the 23rd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment and was killed in action at the Battle of Chattanooga in November, 1863. He is buried in the National Cemetery in Chattanooga and there is a monument called the Strubbe Memorial in the Vine Street Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati with his name on it.

I can't seem to find out much more about this relative and wonder if there is anyone out there who has researched the 23rd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment who can help me find more information.

I have contacted people of the same name who live or lived in Cincinnati but they haven't responded. I know there are genealogy clubs in The Villages, and I'll definitely look into them when I arrive, but wonder if anyone has information about members of this army unit that can help me out.

Thanks!

You might try Genealogy, Family Trees & Family History Records at Ancestry.com (http://www.ancestry.com), or look at these two books:

I didn't spend time reviewing the information but this site does mention troop strengths, locations and unit rosters: https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/23rd_Regiment,_Kentucky_Infantry_(Union)
