TOTV is a VERY small % of folks living in TV. Hardly anyone I meet has ever heard of TOTV.....because they're all out and about.

You'll notice more folks posting during extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, etc. TOTV is not the villages.

Someone just brought this to my attention..........
It's an honest question........just wondering.........??

If everyone in The Villages is leading such an active "lifestyle" of golf, etc. and all the other wonderful offerings which are provided throughout the community..........WHY is everyone posting on Talk of the Villages from the wee hours of the morning till late at night???

Has anyone else ever wondered this?

Do you not all golf in the mornings when it is cooler???

What about all this dancing in the squares?

Just wondering. We sit down at our computer to check out pictures that are always coming in from our five grandchildren.........and to take a "breather" from the exhausting work of decluttering and packing up our home for sale........or to research something or other that we need to purchase.........but then we don't have all of the great activities that TV offers.........

Do any of the owners of TOTV write some of these posts????????
Just wondering?????????

TOTV can be addictive..........and I , myself, have been known to "tune in" when a touch of insomnia hits.
Usually I'm working on my genealogy and ancestry.com website..........but then I wonder how things are going at TV.

Many people are off campus for some parts of the year, Senior, most especially our Canadian friends, and snowbirds too. And then some folks may be recovering from surgery or it is too hot to golf. Some people still work and it is on the computer and will flip over to TOTV. I have a dear friend who works at night on her computer, she is an IT specialist to other parts of the world.

I think the previous owners sometimes "ghosted" some posts to keep interest flowing, but I am pretty sure we have enough posters who keep things humming here without that happening.

And some of us can't sleep well.

Sure I'm busy enjoying all TV has to offer but I don't go to the squares every night and I usually come home for lunch and a nap and to just relax

I can't imagine anyone including those working a full time job that would not have some time set aside to watch television, read a book, engage in a hobby or visit TOTV, etc

So the question seems to imply that this is all a member of TOTV does which of course is not the case.

My addictive level is quite low and there is not much I couldn't walk away from.....well except my wife she is addictive:icon_wink:

Nowadays the internet is portable.
One could be waiting for a table at a restaurant, and with a smartphone, be on TOTV
( or waiting for a movie to begin, etc)
So one could be multitasking and not necessarily tied to a desk to be on TOTV :)

Here I am sitting in a car (borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring) somewhere north of Atlanta, with an hour's worth of driving left on today's leg of the journey. Yesterday I was stuck at home while some cabinetry was installed. Last Friday new countertops and the plumber kept me at home. A lot of this down time I spent on TOTV, just seeing what's up and if DoubB will say anything funny or Gracie anything interesting.

I like to watch sports in the evening (baseball, football, hockey) and hang on the forum at the same time. I do have a life. It's around here somewhere...

I would think at our age our schedules and routines are pretty well established regardless of where we are located.

Besides that this is confidential secret information, :1rotfl:

I did the ancestry . COM thing until I connected the dots between my grandfather from Missouri and Jessie James. That was enough for me. I would be embarrassed to know I was related to any Wild West murderer and thief like John Wesley Harding, Bill Boney (BTK) or Jessie James. I want no connection to low life's like that.

We have lots of folks running around doing everything all the time. And we also have lots of folks (my husband and I included) who enjoy staying home and a few rounds of golf each week. So obviously one lifestyle would allow for more time on TOTV and if that is what a person wishes to do with their retirement - go for it - you earned it.

I. So agree. I have been on this site for almost ten years. I could write a novel on the previous owners, as they were so obvious. The current owners is a different story. I honestly could not tell you if they are men/women, reb/dem, old/young. They are so fair and balanced I must give them a salute.

I, for one, am full-time and an owner in The Villages. I stop in on TOTV at all different times of the day because I have no set schedule. If I golf at 7am and then a bunch of us go to breakfast, then shower and change and go to mah-jong in the afternoon in the neighborhood then I'll probably be in that night on the computer, reading or watching TV. Other days go to a movie in the afternoon when it's hot or shop then when it cools go down the square and listen to music, have an ice cream from Ambrosia. Yesterday stayed in, did laundry and housework and read, computer then at night went to rec center and played Pub Trivia with some neighbors. We're retired we can do as little or as much as we want. Don't forget most everything closes at 9pm.

For us here in the UK, this forum makes us feel that much closer to TV and certainly keeps us up to date with the everyday happenings. We are not locked into the forum ALL day but I must admit we check in at least 3 times a day! Not sure how many times I shall check in once we get over full time? Either way.....We :love this forum and The Villages and all the beautiful people :pepper2

Those persons posting on TOTV are a very small portion of the population of The Villages. We are only the persons who have an interest in this form of social media or an interest in discussions about the community. My time on this site is only a small portion of my total time. I think this is pretty normal. It's a good and honest question.

Some people post on TOTV hundreds, possibly thousands of times, but once they move here they never or rarely post again. The same thing happened when the political forum got shut down. Some of those posters were on here day and night, but now never post.

Watching/reading TOTV is a break from packing boxes.
Throwing things out, donating to charities, recycling, etc. An excuse to procrastinate.
We will make the move sometime in Oct, almost a year after we made settlement and the warrantees run out.

I do not golf and admittedly have a lot of free time on my hands which I hope is spent doing worthwhile things like posting on TOTV, helping family members, shopping, going to movies, walking the dog, doing my victim/survivor advocacy stuff, writing FunTrivia quizzes after researching them, doing FunTrivia, reading, watching DVDs, watching TV shows, etc.

I feel I am in a very unusual position and in no way reflect the people you would often find out and about in the Villages even though at the Villages' pools, for instance, there seems just as much socializing as on TOTV. Some people are just more comfortable visiting through avenues like TOTV, Facebook, etc.

I've found exactly the same thing. Although it seems like we have many members, it's small compared to who actually lives here. Also, many who post haven't moved here yet and are posting from up north, wherever that is. Add to that the snowbirds that post from up north not now enjoying all the activities gives a false conclusion.

I got up this morning, and checked Facebook, TOTV and a couple of other sites I am on while I drank my tea. I shaved showered and all that and went to a guitar club. I got home and made lunch for my wife who was coming home at 1:00. While waiting for her, I checked into the sites once again and caught up on the news.
When she got home we ate and I worked a bit in the yard.
I came in a practice music for a bit then prepared for a club meeting that I have in the morning. I watched a bit of the golf tournament, checked in on TOTV, FB and the others again. I then made dinner. We just out and are going out for a drive. (My wife is learning to drive). I have to be home so that I can play in my pool league at 7:00.

Actually, it took me a while to realize it but there are some TOTVers who don't even live here. They would like to live here and they live vicariously through the site. So for sure those people aren't out golfing or doing the endless clubs available.

I am not a TV resident. At least not until my long term rental starts in April.

I READ TOTV to find information to decide on a course of action. Purchase a home or not.

I have learned facts concerning homeowners insurance, medical facilities and doctors, new builds such as Fruitland Park, crime, etc.

I POST on TOTV in search of answers to specific questions/issues that concern me because those issues will influence my decision.

I have been to TV twice before. The first time to experience the residents. The second to understand the system. On my second visit I attended the CDD orientation. The speaker asked each attendee what village they lived in. When I said Harwood he was puzzled. When I told him I lived in Maryland he blurted out "due diligence." I just smiled.

I usually pop on here and there during the day. I work from home and so I sometimes check to see what's going on.

I really don't like to watch tv, as much as listen to it in the background, so I come on here to see what's doing on in the Villages.

I love Ancestry.com. I have been doing that for about 2 years. I have traced my husbands family back to the 1500's in the US and my family back to the 1700s. Its very interesting. And addictive!

Now I'm home from the pool league and I'm checking on here again. Tomorrow, I'll get up drink some tea while I check things on the computer for about and hour. The I go to my Beatles club from 9:00 until noon. Then home for lunch and I'll be on the computer for a bit. Then I do some volunteer work from 2:00 until 5:00. I play in another pool league tomorrow night from 7:00 to 10:00.

So I come on three or four times a day, but I'm not on here all day long. But, if there are 200 members here and each are on for two or three hours a day, then it appears that everyone is on here all day long.

I'm typing and I can't stop...just moved here 4 months ago. It would have been a lonely and inefficient experience without totv. I had thought I'd come here and connect through doing activities. Truth is establishing friendships with kindreds was the most important thing, and without totv I'd still be at square one.
Networking is the berries and this network rocks. Thanks TOTV community for these:

Met my first friend Chachacha before I moved here.
Had a home party with 18 mostly unknown singles.
Developed a bond with Gracie and friends.
Received countless referrals for businesses to complete the move.
Have gotten a clue how other people think around here. ;)
Received great advice and help.
Fabulous developing community of significant singles. Not dating, relating.
Place to vent, check others' experiences, buy things I need.
I like writing more than talking and enjoy expressing myself.
Get some news, some laughs, enjoy personalities.

I'm ready to start more activities and have invited my burgeoning new neighborhood to see my house tomorrow followed by a singles home party elsewhere. Saturday--going to the UF/TN game with a single friend I met on TOTV. NONE of which would have happened without TOTV.

I think the frequent usage here has to do with the portability of our computers.

Many, if not most, people here in TV have laptops, iPads and iPhones, making it easy to have the computer/device at your fingertips while doing other things around the house....like laundry, cooking, watching some t.v., etc.

I wouldn't want to go into the office and sit at a desktop computer, which is confining. Often, my laptop or iPad are on the kitchen counter and I take a look here as I walk by while doing other things.

Yes I actually did wonder about this.

I hear about all the activities yet it seems many of the people talking about the activities are on here so much you wonder if they participate or just talk about them.

But then everyone has preferences on what they want to do and some may just prefer to spend a lot of time on here.

I have what I hope is a related question for you people (who either are or aren't on here all day!): Is there a way to have this site update itself while it's open (like facebook does) so I don't have to close it out and open it back up to see new posts? The reload button doesn't do that for me, so for example, in order for me to see if anyone replies to this, I will have to totally close this entire program and then reopen it? I'm hoping there's something I'm heretofore missing as that would certainly cut down the amount of time I find myself here!

if the active lifestyle is what this is all about, then why are so many of us sedentary and grossly overweight. few people walk anywhere (take the golf cart to the postal station or to the pool); take the dog for a walk (while you sit in the golf cart and drive along slowly); grocery shop at publix (while parking your you know what in the motorized scooter); look for a parking spot (while circling the lot to find the closest one so that you do not have to walk too far to the entrance); visit the all you can eat buffet (let's heap up the plate with mashed potatoes and gravy)......and this goes on and on.
we have amazing facilities and infrastructure to allow us to be active: so let's get moving!

ummm. even my overweight friend rides a bike 6 miles at age 70.
I just moved and have been too sedentary, but my preference for a comeback is to dance and swim, since I'm a miserable cyclist and not the most disciplined.
Parking as far away as I can and walking in the sun across asphalt is more than I want to do.
Thanks for the encouragement to move. Ms. Nyad certainly showed me my age is not the problem.

LOL. Not to knock engineers, but after I have heard a couple of engineers at my workplace arguing about which pump manufacturer is best or which fabricator to use for the next tank we have to build, it is nice to read TOTV during my lunch time at work. And at work I only read TOTV during my lunch time (well, usually just during my lunch time) :)

As a wannabee here in the Chicago area, TOTV is my primary source of information about what is going on in The Villages. For example, I would not know that TV may be expanding into Fruitland Park unless I read TOTV. TOTV has been like my textbook for getting information about moving to and living in The Villages.

A lot of people have trouble sleeping when they get older. Some wake up early every morning due tho having done it all their lives. Some have difficulty sleeping and go to bed later and often wake up frequently at night.
Over 100,000 people live in the Villages. As has ben pointed out those of us on TOTV are a very small percentage. A few of that small percentage post late at night and in the wee hours of the morning. I'm sure that some on here cannot get out and lead active lives for one reason or another, but that is not the norm. I have some sort of activity every day. Many times two or three in a day.

I think the majority of people who move here, have projects to do around the house or just start on building their activities list.

I personally find that just being here, cuts down on the time I would spend on TOTV as I was very addicted when I was up north. It is a great place to meet wonderful new friends and to obtain much needed information.

I just you will find when you get here. LOL
