Our new Begonia has no lights on the ceiling fans and no wiring that I know of or wall switch to turn a light on or off independently of the fan itself.

Does anyone know who might do this kind of work and the approximate cost for installing a plain light fixture?

I'd call warranty and get the name of the original electrician for your home. He'll be most familiar with the wiring there.

There is a wire in the wall for a light, but if you are not comfortable doing this type of work, you better call a professional. I did ours, but I am not a professional.

This can be a do it yourself job. There is almost always a simple plug within the piece at the bottom of the middle of the fan. This dome shaped piece comes off with three or four easily seen screws. Inside you will find a plug that is ready and waiting for you to attach to the wiring within which ever light kit you buy. Snap the pieces together, screw the light kit into the fan and you're done. Your mileage may vary. Oh, flip the circuit breaker. Your light will operate off a pull chain. Google search using How to install a ceiling fan light kit will give you details.

Pike electric runs a regular ad in the Village Sun. I believe they charge $239 for a 3 fan package

If you are comfortable with easy wiring jobs like replacing a switch, it is a good DIY project. The first one took me about a half hour by the time I got out the tools, ladder and figured out what had to be done - the second one took 10 minutes. The fan units are prewired for a light.

Pike Electric on Canal Street, LSL, has kits available. Just know the manufacturer of the fan before you go.

Pike is over priced. If you want switches instead of pull chains they will charge $55 extra per light. We used Lenhart Electric who installed our fans. They will tell u where to purchase the lights (compatible with the brand of fan you have) depending on how many bulbs you want in each light. Then they will install them WITH WALL SWITCHES for I think it was $60 each. Lights we bought were $40 each. We had them installed on 3 fans. Pike's quote for same thing was over $500.

I also used Dan's Fans in Fruitland Park. I had them replace the builder's fan in the living room with a beautiful wood style fan with light and they took the living room fan and put it in the dinette area and put a light fixture on it that I selected. Both fans are controlled by wall switches that control the fan speed and light dimmer separately. Excellent job. Couldn't be more pleased.
