I want to talk to anyone who spent time at the Harry Anna Crippled Children's Home in Umatilla. And I'd love to talk to nurses and anyone who treated polio patients. Thanks!

My husband is a polio survivor - treated in Des Moines Iowa with Sister Kenny's method as well as an iron lung. So far at the age of 66 no residual problems.

I was a patient of Sister Kenny at the Jersey City Medical Center in 1942-3. She visited the hospital. I believe there were 6 of us who were her personal patients. I have no residual effects. It's amazing to me that so few people our age remember her.

I believe The Little White House, Warm Springs is in Georgia?!? We have vacationed there frequently.

I was a patient in the UK - the new Salk vaccine was flown over to our county when there was an outbreak there, and I had two of the 3 shots. We suspect it was a live vaccine which caused paralysis for some months, but I subequently fully recovered. No effects thus far.

I haven't heard the term "Iron Lung" for years. Is there still a use for one? I can remember as a kid before the Salk vaccine came out that they made us get out of the public swimming pools for a 30 minute or so rest every now and then. They thought overexertion may be the cause.

We had a student in my college class who attended school in an iron lung. She didn't actually go to the school but had her classes piped in to her home.
She graduated and eventually got a job but don't know what she did for a living. She had a lot of guts and fortitude to do what she did.
