My mominlaw who is in a wheelchair in Dec. wants to see some sights. Although I have never been to Mt. Dora, I hear it may be a good place to go.
Please advise on what. you think

It's great!!!! Lots of hills though. She could easily roll down the hills.

It is such a quaint place with lots of gift shops and restaurants she will enjoy it ! Most restaurants need to be wheelchair accessable but you should check first.
Enjoy !

Mt. Dora has a website with lots of information. Just Google it and take a look at their schedule of shows or other activities that are scheduled that she may like :)

Went there yesterday and it was a ghost town. Nothing going on so we left. We have been there before and it was easy to park and walk around.

We went there last December and the entire town was decorated for the holidays with lights - absolutely beautiful. We plan to return this year in December with a bunch of our neighbors.
We visited in June and there was quite a bit of construction due road damage because of storms. We will definitely check the chamber of commerce website before heading over.

We had been wanting to go there for years and years ever since I heard about the inn on the lake. While visiting in the Villages for the month of November one year , we took a ride over. Although the lake was nice, as was the lake drive in Tavares.......we were not impressed at all with the town of Mount Dora. It had been advertised as the "New England of Florida."
Just didn't "get it" at all.......didn't see any shops open actually.......
The inn really wasn't on the lake either......didn't see any "bustling" tourism either. It was kind of dead.
It might be a difficult town to push a wheelchair......but just my opinion.
I'd stay in THE VILLAGES where the sidewalks and restaurants and the boardwalk on Lake Sumter Landing are more wheelchair friendly. Ditto for the various squares.....
She might like the town of Tarpon Springs which has a lot of Greek restaurants and the old sponge docks in town..........west coast of Florida.
I think Tarpon Springs has a lot more going for it than does Mount Dora.
Nice homes on meandering lagoon like canals/river....etc. Park like, with the big old oak trees.

Yes, I'm sure Homossassa Wildlife Park is open all year long. It is really a wonderful spot for old and young. You can get a boat ride, wheelchair accessible or tram ride. It's reasonable, easy to get to with diverse animals and cooling shade in most of the areas.
