I had the first of what I hope is my last experience at a community pool. Our pool at Sanibel is closed for refinishing. No big deal I decided I would swim at the Sanible Rec pool today. While swimming and talking I noticed a white cloud of something floating on the top of the water. The woman I was talking to asked me if it was pollen. A closer look revealed it to be someone's spit. Yes, someone decided they would cleanse their nasal passage in the pool. We quickly spotted the older gentleman doing this. We both removed ourselves from the pool. As we sat in the chairs deciding whether to report this rude behavior we witnessed the man continually doing this while he swam. I rinsed off under the shower, went into the rec center and told them. I can not believe that a person would do anything like this in our pools. Some people really need a lesson in manners.

Why not say something to the offending jackass?

I wouldn't say anything to him for fear he'd hack up a big one and spit on me. Just the description of it above makes me nauseated.

Or for fear that he's got even more screws loose and would pull a gun.

I guess all the folks peeing in the pool are covered by the "Out of sight, out of mind" rule.

that is the most disgusting thing I've read here, and that's going a ways...the staff should be notified. that behavior is grounds for ejection.

This is so disgusting. I always wondered why people have their own pools , now I know why!!

I was in a hot tub at a gym here in San Diego. A man was actually sitting in the hot tub with others and S H A V I N G!! I saw him do it then stick the razor under water. I asked him, "Why are you doing that in here", and he said, NO LIE .... "I don't see a sign saying you can't"! I said . . . "Sir, WHY WOULD YOU THINK ANYBODY WANTS TO SWIM AROUND IN YOUR WHISKERS, OR BETTER YET . . . YOUR MICROSCOPIC BLOOD CELLS??????"

He was a professional-type man - just looked at me like I was a meanie, and said, "I never thought about it that way". GEEEZ. I was so insensed, I climbed out right then and others followed me. Management said, "We can't monitor everybody all the time". What are people thinking??

Right. More of the "Entitled" generations dominating society these days.

And that was a LAME manager, because the water chemistry and sanitization has to be maintained according to health department rules/laws, and shaving cream or soap in there would be a sudsing mess.

Yikes....we gave up our pool when we moved here. Thought we'd scale down on some maintenance and get out and be more social. Now I'm really sorry we did...this is gross, and one of the reasons I never go to hotel hot tubs (heard from a hotel security guy most hotel hot tubs are notorious for "goings on" and maybe I didn't wanna sit in that water). Glad the water is starting to get cooler...maybe I'll forget all about this by the time I'm ready to go back in the pool next year! P.S. I'm sure I would've said something directly to that slob...unbelievable!

I'm not saying what I would do is the right thing. If I saw this person doing this I would say something to him. What he is doing is a health hazard . If he has any kind of sickness, flu, cold, ect ,he is putting everyone in that pool at risk.

I don't use public pools. I leave that to the folks with athletes foot, jock itch, yeast infections, herpes, hemorrhoids, conjunctivitis, nail fungus, etc.

I am really surprised at the lack of people here that are willing to confront this slob. It seems that everyone is so ready to flip others the bird while driving, writing notes and leaving them on golf carts (previous thread), and even being rather testy towards one another here on TOTV. But, when it comes to actual face-to-face admonishment, reading back on the previous posts, only one person said he/she would say something.

That's a sad situation we've got here.

How pleasant.

I had thought about swimming during my LSV...not anymore.

Can we acknowledge that this is the exception and not the rule? I hope so.

I just want to say this is the most totally disgusting post and human behavior I have ever seen on TOTV.

You're absolutely right ... I agree that this is the exception and not the rule. I think that many thousands of residents have been swimming for years in the public pools without any ill effects.
But the behavior that prompted this thread is vile.

There is a manager at the family pools. If you see someone doing these vile things go inside and speak with them and let the manager tell the offending party.

Lots of people complain about the chlorine in pools. I like chlorine....and 70,000 gallons of water to dilute "everything".

Eeeeewww. This is the perfect reason to get our own pool.
