Purchased a Club Car 2003 in 2007, refurbished like new. Excellent

January, 2013
Me: My problem: Excessive noise under seat, vibration sound from engine. Also would start to go and then stop, over and over again. (2 Problems)
Mechanic #1: Diagnosed as Hard starting. Not true. I told him Noise.
After 1 hour he said "Oh, yes, we found the problem, you need a new Rev Limiter, cost $363.00. I can get one in 1 hour and you'll be set to go."
With all the other charges, sales tax, service charge, mechanic shop supplies, the total came to nearly $500.00. A new spark plug, fuel filter and oil change, were listed as a no charge, because my cart didn't need it in the first place. When I finally got to test drive to Brownwood, noise was still there and everything else. After weeks to cool off, I found another mechanic.
Mechanic #2-Came to house lifted the seat said,"WELL, LOOK HERE AT THIS." The engine was about to fall down to the ground. The Snubber was so shriveled up that Mechanic #1 had not brought to my attention. Cost about only $25 bucks. I'll replace it and check the governor. OK, Cost now another $100.00. Total $600.00 now.
Me: Test ride to Brownwood, yep you got it. Stop and Go still the same but no noice from the snubber. I called him and he said, "Oh, I'll be up within 2 days and I'll adjust the governor. Well, Two weeks now and a no show, no courtesy phone call. NOTHING

Me: I could have gotten killed not to mention innocent people and children if an accident occurred due to an engine dropping in the middle of the street if I had not been cautious and inquisitive about what happened to my cart. It was impossible for Mechanic #1 to miss seeing the Snubber while working on my cart for 2 hours. IMPOSSIBLE, is what I've been told.

Did I do something wrong? What's wrong with this kind of repairmen ship (both supposed to be reliable people). I really don't believe they deserve $100.00/hr with this shabby work. AND $600.00 and I still can't use my cute little golf cart for months. I'M FED UP. I GIVE UP. Wouldn't you?

I share your pain. I have the virtually identical model rebuilt cart and had some problems a few years ago. A recommended mechanic did not do adequate repairs. A TV "seasoned vet" recommended a terrific mechanic who not only fixed my running problems, but has kept my cart in tip top running shape ever since, for very reasonable cost. I will send you contact info by private message.

I used a DIY solution to significantly reduce gas cart noise. I cut pieces of hard insulation and glued them to the underside of the seat and the side panels of the cart in the engine compartment. This was a very inexpensive and effective solution. Fortunately, in my cart model there is enough air space between the insulation so that it is unaffected by engine heat. While they are rather pricey ou can find sound insulation packages for your model, ready to install easily with one side peel and stick on.

The snubber wearing out will NOT cause the engine to fall out of the cart. As far as the cart cutting out, yes it could have been the rev limiter, but a simple test would have proved if that was the issue. The replacement of the rev limiter should have been far less than what you paid and only takes 10 minutes to replace, I hope they didn't take it back to the shop to do the work.
All I can say is just because it says golf carts on the outside doesn't mean they know golf carts on the inside. Sorry to hear about your misfortune with 2 mechanics as it gives the whole industry a bad name.
