Apparently a woman in a car with a baby tried to ram the white house gates. She was pusued by police and that is when the shooting began. No report of injury or casualty.

MSNBC is now reporting that the woman driver was fatally shot, but the baby was not harmed and is now at a hospital. The capitol policeman, who was injured, appears to have been hurt by the automobile and not by gunfire. No motive given at this time.

We see the car on video with officers trying to get her out after they said she rammed the WH gate and it didn't look like any damage at all that you would expect to see after media reports ramming. On another note, no area to play around in. We were on Pennsylvania Av taking pictures of the WH. Some kids in another party had just finished a paper bag lunch in Lafayette Park and as kids do they decided to blow bags up and pop them. Well not smart. What I assumed was a civilian lady pushing a child in stroller pulled out long gun and started yelling everybody down down down and police appeared out of nowhere in seconds.

Sounds like another case of a person with a mental illness acting on impulses without thinking about the consequences. Unfortunately, in this case these were fatal.
I hope people remember that one in four American citizens have some kind of mental illness according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. http://www.nami.org/ Education and better access to practical information about mental illness is necessary and less emotional reactions.

The entire incident could likely have been prevented if the driver had undergone a background check and the fuel tank capacity had been limited to ten gallons.

I saw her picture flashed on just now. A very pretty young black woman, a dental hygienist, from Stamford Connecticut, driving a Lexus with a toddler with her.
Another sad and troubling event with no good answers. Not even good questions.
Let's not make it political and fight about gun control.
No woman in her right mind would try to break down barriers to the White House with a child in the car. It goes against nature and reason.

Lame attempt.
The woman was driving a lethal weapon, her car. As has been said, this was no area to act foolishly in. Remember what happened recently at the naval shipyard.

I like your commons sense approach to this, graciegirl. Obviously, this lady had mental health problems of some sort as did the Navy Yard shooter just two weeks ago. And, a car certainly can and has been used as a weapon many times. http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/crimes-using-cars-weapons-seem-commonplace
