Alaska, south interior, in the summertime waether?

We are going to Juneau, Kagaway, Ketchikan and Victoria, BC in June.
For those who have been to these locations in previous Junes, how would you describe the weather.
I have an annual weather chart for the location showing a range of temps from lows of 40 to highs of 62.

Welcome to my Home:pepper2: I live in Juneau, been here since 1981. Southeast Alaska is considered a rain forest. Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan or it's call the panhandle.

The best advise that I can give to you is to dress in layers. In that way you can either put on or take off items based on your comfort level. I would also bring a rainproof hooded jacket as you will have some rain. An anorak jacket is great in the rain as well as blocking the wind. Of course it goes without saying that you should have comfortable walking shoes.

Are you doing half on the boat and half inland on the train? That is the best way to experience Alaska. Have a great time.

We went in late July, and while we were told it was unusually cool for July, it certainly was! I wore long pants, a midweight jacket, socks, comfortable shoes and sometimes a knitted headband. It was a fantastic trip and we went to the same places except for Victoria. Instead we went to Skagway.

In Alaska you should always be dressing layers.The summers can range 60 to 80 colder when you're on the water and if you visit any of the bergs. Its cold standing on the deck so take a warm jacket

We spent this past summer in our small (23 foot) boat traveling 2000 miles on the inside passage. Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, Leconte Glacier, Tracy Arm, Juneau, Skagway, Haines, Glacier Bay, Hoonah, Angoon, Kake, Point Baker, Pelican, Sitka, and many many tiny villages. We were there for late May, June, July and August and the weather was wonderful. But according to the locals, this was the BEST summer they can ever remember. Lucky Us! We didn't have much space to store things so packing correctly was critical. I agree with the other posters that layers is the only way to go. The average June in Ketchikan is rain, mist, rain.

Even though it was better weather than most summers, This FLORIDA girl was still cold. I clearly remember my birthday... July 26th ... it was a very bright sunny clear day.... my husband and I tried to sit in our chairs on the dock to read a book but that only lasted 10 minutes....even with turtlenecks, jackets, and hats, it was just too cold.

When you are walking around on the deck of the ship, it will be especially cold with the breeze...the water temperature averages 48 degrees so no matter what the weather is, when you are on or near the water, it will feel colder. This is what I took and it worked out well: ONE pair of shorts (and yes, I did need them), One short sleeve t-shirt, a couple of Columbia type long sleeve shirts, two turtle necks, a very warm hooded sweatshirt, a fleece jacket, and then a nylon shell to wear over it all if it rained.

My husband lived in Alaska and has done this trip by boat 4 times before this summer. If you want any more information, feel free to PM us and we'll get together.

I went on the cruise mid-July years ago. The only layers I needed were wool sweaters and rain gear. It rained the entire week on the ship and I was very cold. But.... it was a fantastic journey. Never loved anything more. Beautiful scenery even in the rain and cold. The week before us and the week after us, had beautiful sunny weather. Luck of the draw but I would do it again in a heartbeat.
