Just wondering what the current number of residents live in The Villages right now. I have read varied numbers. 82,000, 91,000, 101,000?

What number you see depends on who you ask and what you ask.

The developer and sales folks will give you a number in the 90,000 to 100,000 range. It is based on how many homes have been sold and have resident cards (Green IDs) issued. Some of those folks are snow flakes, some are snow birds, some own and rent out, etc.

The US Census Bureau has designated us as a Metro statistical Area (we used to be a Micro Stat area) and throw around a number in excess of 100,000. However, it is defined by the area (not just TV proper) and includes parts of towns around TV.

Confused? Yeah, most of the rest of us are. There's a whole heap of folks here and the number goes up every day.

I think we should have a pool for the correct number - kinda like the lottery!

When we left on 5/1/12, I read in the Village newspaper that @ that time the population was a tad over 102,500.

Not sure the number of residents but TV crossed the threshold of 50,000 households on Oct. 3.

i do not know if any of the population figures can be correct. there are a lot of property owners who are rarely here, and all property owners are not here at the same time. i suppose the most accurate count could be how many villages i.d.'s have been issued. that still will not tell us if these are permanent residents or snow-birds. on my street probably half of the homes are owned by snow-birds, and are empty for almost 7 to 9 months a year. and probably only 1/10th of those homes ever have renters. the renters cannot be counted at all. but yes, go to publix on a saturday and you will some sort of idea. or any place where there is free coffee and donuts!
