From Guardian articleOn Stenersen's own shortlist of contenders are Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani schoolgirl who was shot in the head by the Taliban, and Denis Mukwege, a doctor in the Democratic Republic of Congo, who has treated thousands of women gang-raped and tortured during the civil war.

"I'd be surprised if the award didn't go to this doctor," Stenersen said.

Malala Yousafzai will probably win it in some future year would be my guess. She is doing great work with helping kids in access to education denied them for years because of the culture they live in but she has not been doing this work very long. And, she seems to reaping the benefits of all the press attention. I had not even heard of Dr. Denis Mukwege before this and this man has been doing very difficult work in very difficult situations.

I would nominate Vladamir Putin for the Nobel Peace Prize. He stepped in and bargained with Syria to disarm their chemical weapons when it looked extremely likely that a war was going to begin within a few days.

There seems to be a February 1, 2013 deadline for inclusion. Nobel prize predictions: Higgs offers headache over division by three | Science | theguardian.com (http://www.theguardian.com/science/2013/oct/06/nobel-prize-predictions-higgs-boson-headache)

A Russian advocacy group claims to have nominated Putin for the peace prize, but since they cite Russia's moves to prevent US intervention in Syria, the nomination may have arrived after the 1 February deadline for this year.

I, for one, would not consider Putin for any "prize" without knowing what he promised Assad.

Probably because he didn't want to be uncovered for helping them get the chemical weapons into Syria in the first place!
