With all that has been going on with this financial debacle, you might want to give our federal representative, Congressman Richard Nugent, a call to let him know your expectations of him as representing you. His telephone number in TV is: 352 689 4684 and in DC: 202 225 1002

Let's face it, representatives need to hear from their constituents so they know which way their constituents wish them to vote. They do like to be reelected :)

Also don't forget about contacting Senators Nelson and Rubio. You can reach any of the 535 members of congress by calling the US Capitol at 202 224-3121.

You could try calling the gym, I heard on the news last night when they were talking about military death benefits that the Congressional gym is still open.

I am totally disgusted.

I am just saying you might consider voicing your opinion to those that are supposedly representing your vote and remind them that, when election time comes, you will be thinking about what they did or did not do.

For every phone call or email/fax etc. I believe they receive they count that opinion times 100 to get an indication of where there constituents wishes lie. It is making the contact.

I am a regular in contacting all state and federal "representatives" including the WH.

If more people did so there would be a different attitude toward the constitency....unfortunately that is not going to happen.

I'm with Graciegirl on this one. I'm going to contact the 1 person who carries the biggest stick...and he's at the top!!!

Friday should be interesting down in DC too when the truckers arrive. People are getting very angry about the lack of compromise in DC.

Absolutely right. People spend far too much time bemoaning the government and what is going on rather than calling their representatives to voice their opinion. Talking to each other does not really accomplish what one call can. Remember your one phone call equals 100 people's opinion.

I had already contacted McConnell, Rubio, Boehner. I told them to stay closed it was saving us money. I told them now would be a good time to determine exactly what Departments in Washington were pertinent and also a good time to determine the right amount of staffing needs.

I can't think of a better way to reduce government then this.

The president has a legal obligation to keep the government going so I am not buying into this boogie man ]nonsense.

Essentially I am so content with the shut down

Please do not turn this into a political debate. The intention of this post is solely to ask people to call their representatives.

I do not want the admin to shut this down when people start flinging insults at each others' opinions which is bound to happen.

Not to be political but only practical - it has been determined that all the furloughed Federal employees WILL be paid their full salaries. If they are paid to stay at home, where are the savings?

I wonder how many people have ever actually picked up the phone to call their representatives, congressmen and senators. I know I never did it until several years ago a particular event spurred me to want to work on getting cosponsors for legislation and getting a bill passed....still working on it.

I've done it by phone a few times, but the aides argued!! It was pretty obvious they weren't going to record an opinion contrary to their own!

I think a fax is the best. And possibly in their online contact window.

It's actually true that emailing, faxing, and calling work better. Ever since the Anthrax scare, it takes a very long time for a letter to reach your legislator.

I have sent messages to Congressmen and have never received replies even related to the topic to which I referred.

Makes me think they do not listen to their constituents if they have a different opinion.

You can find the web page, email and other contact information in the Congress app for iPhone and iPad. It's free. There's also a 99-cent version. I use it frequently to communicate with my representatives.

Thanks for the thread, Shcisamax.
