When I google Vibration Therapy, I find that most websites are trying to sell some type of home vibration therapy equipment. If you're willing to share, I would be very interested in hearing more about the benefits of attending sessions at Goga Studio.

I've heard the name but have no idea what it is. Physical therapy? A gym? Please enlighten me.

Vibration Therapy studios have vibration machines that you stand on. Fro my research, there are many benefits to using them. The only concern that I have read about concerns eyes as some doctors are concerned that vibration may cause some detachment if you are susceptible to that. I know that if you stand on one, you can certainly see the vibration in your vision. There are various hoe machines too, but they may bot vibrate the same way or in the same frequency. Like most home gym equipment do your homework before you buy or it will become part of your yard sale!

this is a couple years old, says no benefits are proven and FDA has not approved as a medical treatment. I think I'll go stand by the railroad tracks and vibrate free.

I am at a loss to explain in any scientific way how being gently shaken could help you or hurt you, so being extremely skeptical and extremely thrifty, I would just keep my money.
Buy hey, if it works for you.
I just have to UNDERSTAND it first and I can't.

As I posted and removed.... I have owned one for years. I love them!
Here is a link to the history of the machine.

I know that many chiropractors are putting them in their offices.

I'm not sure why the FDA would post such a thing as the US has used them at NASA as well as with the Olympic athletes!
As a final note, my last visit to my doctor she was touting the machine!
They are in many work out studios for working out. However, I don't know that you can lose weight by standing on one.

FYI If you google Understanding Vibrational Therapy there are many links to articles about the effects and the concerns.

After viewing a demonstration of the machines at the Marion Flea Market it was my opinion the best application for the machine in conjunction with gravity was for the relief of constipation.

I know there are lots of links available. I'm just hoping to hear from someone who has first-hand experience (thanks Angie). I'm hoping to hear from Mountaineergirl who seems to be a fan and goes to Goga Studios.

Sam, how long have you been using your machine? I was thinking about trying Goga Studios when we arrive in November. Mainly just to keep things "loosened up", and I thought it might be good for my new knee.

I have been going to Vibration studio (formerly Gogo) next to Bargains and Treasures for over a year. I has lost 22 inches through my body. It is fun and easy. My doctor approves of it. Every NFL football team has vibration machines in their workout rooms.

I own one too and use it daily. Have had it for two years now. My main purposes are for toning, bone density, circulation, detoxifying, warm ups before physical activities (like dance or aerobics) and sore muscle therapy.
When I was shopping for mine, hubby and I did visit a Goga studio a number of times. I was interested in testing the brand of machines they use and sell. (My ideal was to have one in our home)
There are various brands on the market and each vibrate a little differently.
The brand Goga had was not my favorite. I tried it on three occasions and the pattern of vibration on that one made me a little nauseous.... but that was just my own experience. Hubby did not experience that effect that at all.
I purchased a Noblerex KI- Platinum (MAHA- USA) which has a triangular oscillating pattern. I am quite satisfied.
Note to Barefoot:
My hubby had a knee replacement a few years ago and can use the machine without any problem. I would check with your Doc first though, as to when you can begin to stand on it. An early alternative for you may be to sit in a chair facing the machine and place your feet (flat) on the foot platform. (my machine has a remote control handy for this type of thing) Your Doc can guide you best.

After reading this thread then poking fun at it I got curious, I went to the Marion Flea Market and took a ride on one, did research on the internet on the subject and I am now bidding on a unit on Ebay. The comments posted by senior citizens on the net sold me.

I would strongly urge that you try the brand out before buying. This is how I owned so many before I bought this one. They each vibrate differently. As lightworker pointed out, some are VERY jarring, others don't have much vibration at all.
My first was a cheap "butterfly" that didn't last very long. The second was a machine that had weights attached. I didn't try it so I didn't realize it only ran for 1 minute at a time and hardly had any vibration to it.
The third vibrated too hard... Just about knocked the filling out of my teeth.
I finally figured they aren't all made the same and started standing on them. FINALLY found one that I LOVE! I wouldn't buy another one without standing on it first!
A have a girlfriend who has one she loves and doesn't work for me. they all vibrate differently!

Here is our story: I was going 3 or 4 times a week several months ago, lost 2 inches all over. My husband had been wearing a back brace for weeks to play golf and had leg cramps. I told him he could go free for 3 times, as any new person could. He went the first time and didn't have to wear his back brace the next morning. He went the second time the next day and bought the portable one for $560. He has been on this machine several times a day since and hasn't worn his back brace at all. Also he has not had any leg cramps.
I had sciatica last week and got on the machine twice each day for two days and poof! Gone.
We love this machine!

In addition, some types (like mine) have adjustable vibration levels.
Hubby uses a more intense level than I do.... he's a heavier, taller person than me.... but I like the idea of being able to step it up or mix it up if I choose- as I get into progressed levels of fitness.

Haven't gone there, but we have one at home that I use. I don't know any fancy moves, but it does help my back and knees.

Our machine is more like the photo someone else posted. It is very heavy duty, and has speeds from 1 to 20 and stretchy bands you can pull with your arms at the same time.
Our massage therapist approves of it.

Angie, that is so interesting that you tried multiple machines before you found the right one for you. Thanks for the warning.

Uptown Girl .. I would be looking for a machine to basically do the same as you ... toning, bone density, circulation, sore muscle therapy. And I will definitely be respectful of my new knee before I start test driving machines!
I love TOTV because I am always learning something new. This is a great thread. And the information is all extremely helpful. It's so good to hear testimonials from people I respect.
I can see that there certainly can be benefits from using a Vibration Machine. I plan to start by visiting the Goga Studio, just to get an idea of what is involved before I go out to make a purchase. I'm wondering, does anyone know of a store in The Villages that sells various types of machines, so you can "test drive" a number of different machines before you buy?

There is a store in LSL that sells a brand, the people at Marion Market sell another brand. You can go to just about ANY store that sells workout machines and they generally sell a couple of brands.
"This innovative new manual demonstrates the application of vibration technology to the treatment of pathologies such as osteoporosis, osteopenia, stroke and different musculoskeletal disorders. It covers pathology on the upper and lower extremities as well as the whole spine. New treatment strategies are practically and logically presented with recommended exercises and accompanying instructions that can be applied using the vibration platforms. Rationale is given for selected vibration frequencies, amplitudes and modes for the duration and frequency of the exercise session. The manual is grounded in evidence underpinned by a thorough literature review (including a balanced view of both pros and cons) and clinical cases. The authors present clinical treatment parameters that are evidence-based and have supportive physiological rationale that is consistent with the nature of the pathology being treated. The text is further supported by online access to over 35 video clips demonstrating the possible treatment exercises."
